Hi Bernie, my name Steve cagle and I live here in Chula Vista California. I purchased a 26 inch hutch from John Debruin. I saw your presentation of your hutch. It’s awesome bro I just finished mine and I got extremely lucky. I pieced the whole bike together with Hutch parts. You inspired me to finish my bike with your presentation I want to thank you for giving me the extra motivation. To build it again Bernie thank you very much. Your bike is awesome like no other. Thanks again Steve.
I had one of these, redline flight cranks, titanium bottom bracket, built by Danny Skala, in 1986, this bike cost me almost $1000, when I turned 18, thought I was going to be an adult now, but not ride bikes, anymore, I sold it for $100. I still kick myself in the butt for that one. Badass ride.
I feel you! I had a Kuwahara Laserlite I bought myself for $450 back in like the early 80s and I added parts with it and raced it. When I went to college my mom sold it to some kid for $50. 😩
Im liking this. Ive been an SE rider all my life because not that many people rode it, now half the world rides SE Racing. I think i want to change up now. I never thought I'd be riding a Hutch... but ok. I like the 26. I agree with changing out the seat. I think id get a Kinect shock seat to save my back. I hurt it before moving a 500lbs server down some stairs.
The Hutch is a nice bike if you can get your hands on one. The hard part is that they aren't always available on their website. But if you can find one, it's a sweet bike. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
@Cruising In the 808 Nice build, that is the first Hutch 26” I’ve seen since I’ve got back into B.M.X. and I’m pleased to say you’ve done an excellent job, with the detail and colour, well done. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I’ve now got used my old school Dominator seat.😂
Thanks man! Bernie did a nice job on it. He just picked up a 29" so be on the lookout for another vid all about it soon! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
I think 26 is the sweet spot for a bmx build I've had a spare battery so I bought a second hand mountain bike and added 750w mid-drive motor and some bmx handlebars now the bike is just fun to ride I've already got a 1000w mid-drive fat tire bike wot looks like the supper73
@@cruisinginthe808 Yep, from '72 to '78. Probably not as well known in the US but here in Australia they've become more popular being the same body shape as the RX-3 rotaries.
Thanks!! I made a video on it. Check it out here…… Is a $99 Bike Stand Worth the Money? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g3TOGzk7XFE.html Thanks for watching and for the comment!!
Unfortunately you can't purchase this bike, just the frame and fork and then build it yourself with your own parts. Right now the best bet is to check their website often, hutchbmx.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1&zenid=bpmtelv8t1jer8em559qucoh71 and then when you see a frame and fork become available, put in an order. Right now it looks like they have a 29" available to preorder. You'll have to be patient though as it will take some time for them to complete the orders. Good luck! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Man. This is a beauty. I’m 53 and grew up in the 80s drooling over Hutch and SE PK Ripper bikes. I just bought an SE Big Flyer but this Hutch 26 is awesome. They don’t have it in the website anymore. I see the new 29 but I would love to have the 26. Great job on the build. Great choices on all the parts.
We're the same age bro so we were around the same bikes! I was into Diamond Backs and Kuwaharas back in the day. Yeah, my buddy Bernie did a great job on this build. I'll let him know what you said! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Hello Sir, can you tell me the name of the threadless headset you used and the stem cap bolt? The Hutch 26” Z bike I am building has that thread you spoke of in the fork and I would like to use that option. I thank you for your time and your assistance 🅰️🅿️💯
@@cruisinginthe808 Yes, that would help. I got an SE Stout (2011) that has a looptail, but I'm not sure if it is the same thickness as the Hutch. I'm trying to fit an Evolution V-brake mount (Porkchop) to mine, but my looptail is too thick. After doing some research it seems that there are some standard tubing sizes. 7/8 or 1 inch seems like the figure. I need to drill out a hole to fix the problem.
Okay this is gonna sound like a weird question but those Brad radbars the ones that have a V shape to them, I think basset makes them, I think they're 9 inch rise you think those would be okay on a 24 inch? Just wondering, anyway peace peace sending positive vibes from Louisville KY
Mahalo for the positive vibes all the way from Kentucky! I think those Basset bars youʻre talking about are just fine on a 24". It just depends on how you like to ride. I like my bars high so Iʻm not hunched over. Some like to be bent over a little to be closer to the MTB style. If you donʻt mind a higher bar, I think youʻll be fine with some 9" bars! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
I really don’t know about that. But they just put out a XL Pro Racer set with all the Hutch parts but it’s super expensive. They might bring back the 20” models but I’m not sure. You can check their website and maybe email them. Thanks for the comment and for watching!!
As we get older, the OG parts are going to be harder and harder to find, especially at prices that are affordable so the repop parts, while not true originals, can still help those that want to build up their bikes, similar to what they had as a kid. But yeah, I feel you on that. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
A lot of people love that Hutch so I can see why you said that. The Elf Cruiser is bad ass too! Hope you can get one one day! Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🤙🏻
Tell Bernie he has awesome taste! That is a lot of bling! Man, I saved up two summers of mowing lawns to get my Hutch frame and forks. Still have the notches in my shins from the bear traps too! 😂
I'm on the island of Kaua'i here in Hawaii and right now none of these are for sale. However we are definitely thinking of selling our bikes that we build. Have you seen the other bike build videos on our channel? Thanks for watching!!
You can never go wrong with Redline cranks. To make it a legit Hutch build. You need to fine a flawless pair of Hucth 3 piece cranks. That will run you big bucks todays, along with the hutch pedals. Not hating at all, amazing bike.Great job fellas!
Redlines are solid for sure. I am actually wanting an old school set of Profile cranks from back in the day. Yeah, the Hutch cranks nowadays are big bucks! They cost more than the frame and fork! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
When you build a bike part by part, it's gonna be more expensive than buying a bike that is already built. The frame and fork can run you anywhere from $600 to $900 depending on the brand. And then it depends on what kind of parts you want on it. Like anything else, you can go with cheaper or more expensive parts depending on your taste and budget. If you are starting out, I would recommend buying a bike that's already built like the Monza or any of the SE Bikes. Then you can just change out parts to your liking and it's much cheaper that way. I have some other vids on my channel where we do just that so feel free to check them out! Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment!
Them comp tires how do they fare on rough terrain? I ordered a Race Inc. RA20-R but I'm gonna replace the tires & send it on my local MTB trails. Back in the mid 80s I rode a Mongoose Motomag and rode that bike ragged, good times man.
I ride the Comp 3s on a mix of gravel, dirt, and road and they work well in all three. And it has that old school look and feel to them too which I like. They handle better on the off road stuff than the road tires that come on the SEs. Hope that helps!! Thanks for watching and for the comment!!
@@cruisinginthe808 yeah I'm kinda leaning on the Maxxis Maxxdaddys as Maxxis tires is what I run on my MTB & they're tried n true on the rough stuff but I do like the old school look of the Comps. Thanks for the reply & your buddys' Hutch 26 is a sick bike
@@cruisinginthe808 Man, these bikes bring me back to my childhood. Imt actually amazed to see these bikes and how fast it brings me back 35 years. The craftsman of all these bikes was second to none. I got a Hutch Pro Raider and I dropped at least another 4 to 5 hundred into it Made my money dilivering news papers. I put Redline flight cranks and red Shimano DX pedals. Red Tuf neck stem Araya polished rims and High flanged crime Suzie hubs. Miss that bike!
He swapped it with another 15t freewheel from the Ride Out Supply. I made a video on that too if you want to check that out. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u4Vie6bMGvU.html Thanks for watching and for the comment!
haha, once we build up a hugh ramp, and on the landing i broke my bottom bracket on the good oll hutch, my bike guy in the neighborhood said, only you, only you, yea i was like a crash test dummy;))
@@cruisinginthe808 a few month after, i had enough saved for the first mountanbike typa bike, forgot the brand,a few weeks in i came to my bike guy with a broken rear frame, guess what, same comment, only you;))))
Hutch frames & forks back in the early 80’s were made by Speed Unlimited maker of Thruster BMX bikes. My father worked across the street from the Thruster factory , the Hutches were produced in the same factory. I had a Thruster Vanishing Point back then.
Thank you for that information! I did not know that the guys who made the Hutch frames and forks also made Thrusters! By any chance did you keep your Thruster somewhere? My last BMX bike was a Kuwahara Laser Lite which my mom sold to some kid for $50 when I was in college. That was a sad day when I came home for a break and she handed me that $50. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
@@cruisinginthe808 If I remember correctly the guy who started Hutch / Bob Hutchinson ( don’t remember if that’s the correct spelling for his last name ). He subcontracted out the building of the frames & forks , wheels , cranks to different companies, those companies would then supply their parts ( made specifically for Hutch ) to Hutch and then their bike would be built. Hutch was based in either Delaware or Maryland and since he was so close to NJ where Speed Unlimited was located I guess it made sense to subcontract Speed Unlimited / Thruster to built his frames & forks and since they built the biggest part of the bike he had them do the final assembly until the mid or late 80’s then Hutch opened their own factory and started making their own bikes. Unfortunately I had my Thruster stolen ( 1983-84 ) about a yr & half after I brought it Thruster (Vanishing Point) frame & forks and Thruster power bars , MCS block neck , Suntour 3pc racing cranks , Suntour hubs laced to Araya rims. The frame & forks were made of Chrome moly and had a show chrome finish with the blue Thruster sticker kit , cranks , neck , hubs and wheels were all in blue with blue & white checker flite BMX pads , Damn I miss that bike , it was so light , it was like a feather compared to the other big name bikes that my friends had like Diamond Back , PK Ripper , I actually have a new 27.5 big bike PK Ripper now that I ride all the time. Kuwahara didn’t show up here on the east coast seen until the very end of the 80’s going into the 90’s , nice bikes ! I always said I’d find another Thruster to build , think I just found a 83 Thruster Tri-power for dirt cheap , a yr new than my Vanishing Point , they are going for 4-5 grand these days. You can Google Thruster BMX bikes and it’ll give you their history and I believe it mentions them producing Hutch bike for a few yrs also.
No no no this bike needs work on it the brakes seat post got to go and the bars hutch cruiser bars cro mo straight seat post dia comp brakes and has for the fans on here hutch aero cranks with bear traps job done
Have you seen the prices of those Hutch cranks and pedals? We would love to get our hands on a set but man, they are very pricey. Bernie built this up the way he was comfortable with and I think it matches for what we do which is ride them. Appreciate the suggestions though and thanks for watching! 🤙🏻
@@cruisinginthe808 I do get that mate he’s built the bike for himself and sorry if my message was a bit blunt it’s a lovely bike and are the cranks and pedals really gone up that much wow mind you they was really pricey back in the 80s still great to see a survivor 👍
