Friend recently bought himself Mason -same frame as this, but with Shimano GRX. I assembled and did bike fit. Easily the most thoughtfully prepared stock bike I have ever worked on. Even bottle cage bolts were greased! Attention to detail a pleasure.
Good to hear. Dom Mason is all about the tiny details ( which can be frustrating when I'm trying to get him to develop a new bike!!) but they certainly add up and I'm always amazed at how well the bikes ride.
Great to see you in Japan. I'm looking forward to seeing the event video. I did the entire length of Japan this summer. It was an amazing ride: Sata Misaki in Kagoshima to Soya Misaki in Hokkaido.
Pretty impressed with the Mason. Has some really useful features like the dynamo. I don't imagine Japan is a problem ,but there are plenty of areas where you don't get to anywhere to charge things, or you don't want to spend the night to allow for the time it takes. I used a solar charger in Scotland ,but it was really only good enough for a top up, not a full charge. I look forward to seeing more vids of this event!
Thanks for these films and thank for coming to Japan! I live here but don't know whether I'll ever be able to transverse the whole of this beautiful country (too many attachments??). I ride many of those sort of mountain roads in my area and some days it truly can be hit or miss (roadworks/landslides). But the choice of routes here is great, especially if you come for the scenery. It's really good seeing all the equipment you used and I look forward to seeing the other films. BTW I really liked that stem adapter for the bike computer.
Sounds like a cool event. A local friend mentioned it to me as well. Looking forward to the kit video (and discount code?). I picked up a pair of Albion pocket bibs and they are now my favorite. Would like to try more of their gear.
Nice to see you back. Hope you like the SRAM setup. Interested in further feedback. Just put the Transmission system on a Salsa myself. Just not getting on with the 1x - need a 2x for cadence. Shifting seems good and the SRAM batteries are brilliant.
Congrats on another great race. Looked amazing. The new frame looks good. Tire clearance up from 35mm? Geometry the same as the definition 2? Cheers. 🍻
It was excellent. Almost the perfect country for bikepacking in terms of easy resupply, good roads and polite drivers. I did get lucky with the weather though!
Great video and awesome bike, thinking of getting, not sure whether I would fit best on a 52 or 54 cm frame, i am 175cm in height. Any recommendations pls?
Great video….also rode Sapporo to Nagasaki in April.Amazing country with friendly people. Can I ask if you are using a Bolt V2 or a Roam V2 and/or which you would recommend for recreational cycle touring?
Mate, I absolutely love your videos. Lots of valuable information and always entertaining. I mean this as a constructive criticism. I think your content would benefit from being concious of saying "ummm" in between sentences. Keep up the good work! ❤
Surprised you ride Mason wheels, so many bad reviews on their wheels, so i have to ask do you ride them because you want to, or because they sponsor you??
HUNT wheels. Even though there are a bunch of reddit bad comments on them on durability (there are a lot of good ones), the wheels have simply been proven by tons of people doing ultra-races or bikepacking around the world with no issues sponsored or not. I tend to trust the people who are actually riding the equipment in proper rides.
They are Hunt wheels, full disclosure I work for and am supported by Hunt and have been since the company was founded at the end of 2014. I've used Hunt wheels in every single ultra race I've done since winning TCR in 2015 and have never had an issue. It doesn't mean issues do not happen, but I'd hope that any bad reviews are a minority and they mostly get positive reports.
