I did it in 1982 for MS , 50% of money to UK and Australia 🇦🇺, making ride longer thru Lake District and Highlands; very fond memories for life; pub owner trying to seduce 😂, farm stay Scotland peat fire 🔥, 3 BRAVEHEART giants in Perth pub, watching MAD MAX and explaining to Scots about OZ film 🎥, invited to hunt deer SPEAN 🦌 BRIDGE and so much more cheers to all cyclists globally ❤😊

Wow! What a wonderful film! I truly enjoy all of your films but this one was incredible--but not just the film itself. It is fabulous that you did the LEJOG, especially by yourself! Thank you so much for sharing and for being so very human with your trials and tribulations as well as your triumphs.

Well done Tom. I remember the time I did LEJOG in 2020 and remember it fondly. The only difference being my journey was mostly on road although I did include both the Camel and Tarka early on in the route to break up those relentless Cornwall and Devon climbs.

I did this in the same year when I was 57 ,The first 3 days were by far the hardest ,I felt proud that I never got off the bike once .I've learnt since getting severe cramp & ripping a vien & muscle ,nervous be to proud to get off & push .
@DemiGod..
@DemiGod.. Месяц назад
Similar age. Recently suffered from Delayed Onset Muscle Syndrome (DOMS) after pushing harder on a hilly route I do daily. Felt fine then about 8 hours after finished - AGONY in my thigh, it lasted 1-2 week. Essentially what happened was that due to lots of little tears in the muscle, the damaged cells got inflamed resulting in about a week of agony , still not fully recovered 6-8 months later due to stiffness in the knee and tightness of tendons caused by being incpacitated. If this had happened on a multi day ride, would have been in big trouble as could not walk due to the pain of moving my thigh, the pain was also excruciating if tried to sit.
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Месяц назад
Nice one! Yeah definitely no point pushing yourself too hard. I didn’t have the right gearing for those first few days annoyingly but hey ho

Great video Tom. I saw your original LEJOG video but this was a really good breakdown and I plan on doing this next year (have been meaning to do it for a while but with family and finances it's had to go on the back burner for a bit). Your route looked fantastic and the A82 looks amazing but it just worries me a bit due to the width of the road and it being very busy with HGV and campers. Is a jogle something you've ever fancied?
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Месяц назад
Thank you! Good luck with it when you get round to it. Yeah the A82 isn’t the best nowadays, I think I caught the tail end of the covid lull but it’s not the best road for sure. There are alternatives but they do add the mileage!
@DanielEarlester
@DanielEarlester Месяц назад
Very good. Well done on completing LEJOG. I was in Ilfracombe earlier this year and can confirm it is very hilly. Any day you can avoid an electric fence is a good day. Would it be easier not to wear cleats and use clipped-in pedals since when wild camping you need to jump over hedges and so on?
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Месяц назад
Thanks! Yeah I don’t run road cleats anymore for that reason :)
@DemiGod..
@DemiGod.. Месяц назад
Now that you have done it, how about next, doing it by camping the whole way carrying all the food you need with you? Not sure why you don't like camping in the wet, love it.
@Cycling366
@Cycling366 Месяц назад
Perhaps. The reason I didn’t want to camp in the wet was because I only had a bivvy bag and a crap Aldi special sleeping bag, so not quite as prepared as I am these days
