In this episode, we leave a campground in Valemount, BC and head to Mt. Robson. The mountains are here and they are here to stay! On the way, I spot a big crew of community volunteers picking up garbage from the side of the road. Hwy. 5 has a LOT of garbage. We camp at the Robson Meadows Campground.
The next day, we bump into Domingo and his friend from @bicicleando_por_el_mundo (IG) - they are heading for Alaska. One of the garbage pickup volunteers from the previous day, who is a cyclist himself, stops to give us snacks. Thank you! We camp at Lucerne Campground, where I interview Marine and Nathan of @family_by_coeur (IG) and we talk about touring with a young child, and their cross-Canad adventure.

I do have to add that there were two other families riding across Canada with their kids (that I know of). Both Canadian. But in all three cases, I can't imagine the level of perseverance it took on the parents' side. Not only did they have to push through their own personal obstacles, but also manage those of their kids'. Incredible! But what an experience for the family.

That's neat that you are getting to meet so many different people on bikes along your trip! My family and I visited that same visitor centre at Mount Robson many years ago during a trip out west. My mom actually did a painting of the mountain!

I know I've ridden it before and filmed it but I really can't wait to see you ride the Parkway!! I'm so excited for it! Jasper is my all time favorite place in the world and the Parkway is so stunning! I'm actually planning to ride it again next summer which will my first real solo trip! Even with riding across Canada now, I've only ever done a two day solo ride so I'm really excited to spend a few days alone in the Rockies on my bike! Also, I feel you on the tent drying! My god, it was constant. Even though I didn't really have any condensation issues (aside from one day), it was just the constant morning dew and no time to dry it out. I often had to pack up wet and hope it would dry enough when I would set it up before bed.
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
I'm so excited for your trip! If I could, I'd go back there again. It was my favourite section of the tour. I'd actually like to do a garbage cleanup there, on a bike. There was way too much garbage there.

@joshandjamesvosperfromhere6887
Another great video! It seems as if Marine and Nathan were a part of your tour in BC to Ab, was this planned or spontaneous? Thanks for including them in your story! What a blessing for 9 yr old Nathan, and what an achievement!!!
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
They were! We met at a rest stop on the way to Clearwater, BC. Totally unplanned. Because I ride so slowly, and so do they, and because we were going in the same direction, we could continue together. We separated in Jasper, AB, and then ran into each other again on the Icefields Parkway. And then we rode together to Drumheller, AB.
@joshandjamesvosperfromhere6887
@@WheelsonaBike awesome! Sharing a campsite may have reduced cost? Safety in numbers too! DrumHRELLer is an extremely hot area. When we traveled through (during the hottest part of the day), they had broke a record high! According to one measurement it was already 42 degrees Celsius!!! I don't mind it hot, but this day was unbearable! Hope you had cooler weather on Drumheller. Looking forward to the rest of the story!
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
Yes! We could share the camping costs most of the time. That was great. Drumheller was warm, but not hot when I was there. Interestingly, we weren't able to share a Campsite there. They wouldn't let us.
@joshandjamesvosperfromhere6887
@@WheelsonaBike interesting about the campsite. We rested in the air-conditioned Boston Pizza for 2+ hours, went to the splash park to cool off and stayed in Hana (a Provincial Park near by).

Thank you for watching! The views will only get better. The Icefields Parkway was incredible. I was very lucky to had ridden with Marine and Nathan. @@WheelsonaBike - one more question. As you could see I my videos, I was supported by my husband (and dog!) who drove in an RV and would meet me at the end of each ride. I really didn't relish the idea of camping by myself as a single female. Have you ever worried about your safely when alone? How about getting stranded? It happened to me once when I broke my chain in Kansas and I could not have fixed it myself. I was literally in the middle of nowhere and just very grateful to have cell service to call my husband. He was able to find me and get my bike to a shop for a new chain. Just wondering your take on all that. You do seem very capable!
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
Good questions. No, I never worried about camping by myself. But I made sure I was always comfortable with where I stayed. I don't wild camp. If I did not feel comfortable, for whatever reason, I'd leave and find another option. I carried a satellite tracker and was in constant touch with my family. I didn't have any breakdowns, but took the bike for frequent preventative checkups when in bigger cities. I'm not a bike mechanic and could not fix much myself but trusted that if anything happened, I would be ok and that things would work out. They always did.

@@WheelsonaBike Oh, really? I thought you just arrive at the border of BC. I also wish I could ride across Canada and back to the starting point. Is it possible to ride across Canada in the winter? I know the temperature could be as low as -40+ degrees C during the winter somewhere in Canada.
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
I leave dates in the videos. The two days for this video were June 3 and 4th. To answer your question, yes, it's possible to ride in the winter provided you have the right gear and have accomodation options. @jabig rode across Canada in the winter, but he stayed indoor every night I believe.

@@WheelsonaBike Thanks! Hopefully you can review and publish the resources and tools you used to plan and organize riding across Canada.
