Great bush fix! I too, will be adding ty-wraps ( and whiskey for my temper) to my kit. If you don’t mind, I’ll suggest some 26 gauge ( or thereabouts ) copper wire which could easily threaded around entire hub with a little less frustration. I’m new to eBikes but not new to fixing things with barbed wire and binder twine! Thanks for sharing! Darrell - 🇨🇦
Liking the new wheels,I still have 4 months left on my warranty but so far smooth running. I'll probably take it into Biktrix sometime this summer for a full check up before my 1 year warranty is expired. The most important thing for me is to keep the drive train clean and lube makes a big difference in the ride and shifting, juggernaut ultra 1000 pro was made for working through the gears love the 11 speed sram cassette and the way it works and feels. Interesting BEAR like to hear that story. Probably just wanted you're lunch or power bars.
I have seem this type of failure 2 to 3 times in my entire life of cycling, and i have been cycling road bikes for over 40 years. This happened to me on a bike which i purchased and brought with me from Ukraine back in 1978. How is it that this is happening with all the technology, innovation and quality control today? I hope manufacturers can improve their product quality control. May the issue is due to the stress applied to the hub by the ebike motor and the hub is not able to withstand such stress?
Great video! Juggernaut ultra hard tail owner here. Could you post the details/ links to the hub/rim. Did you buy them pre-laced or separate? Also I wanted to mention that I think RU-vid is going to Love you. You have a great attitude. Good footage. And I can tell your very mindful of the viewer while still being you. Thanks for the content and the very useful hack. Zip ties should be a part of everyone's kit and now I know another reason why. Cheers!
Thank you so much.... I am trying to keep it interesting while being true to myself. I laced the wheels myself. 268mm 14g spokes would be a better length than what I used. Here is the link for the hub. onyxrp.com/store/fat-bike-hubs/fat-iso-hg/fat-iso-hg-197-12mm-thru/ And here is the link for the rim. www.ebay.com/itm/194040577325?ViewItem=&item=194040577325 And finally link for spokes and nipples...Great guy, shipped super quick. www.ebay.com/usr/childhood_dreams
I watched this video months ago - still forgot to put zip ties in my bag. My Juggernaut HD Duo failed at 429 miles. The 3pawl ring on the inside actually stripped out. Not good. I used some straps from my pannier bag to get home. Thanks for posting. Mine is one month out of warranty - I don't ride a lot or far - mostly because I was afraid of this very thing. Have you had good luck with the bike since? What hub do you recommend as a replacement? The bike shops around here don't touch the fat rim stuff. Very weird.
Glad you had the sense to use the straps. I have been riding the onyx hub. Biktrix did come out with a couple different fixes for the stripped hub body. I would definitely give them a call. They have DT Swiss design and they also have a less desirable locked hub that behaves like zip ties.
@@RangerReview I saw a video on the locked hub - seemed dumb to me (er, um I mean less desirable lol) - chain always moving. Is the DT Swiss design the stock hub? I couldn't find any markings on it. They have the Wren as an alternative for $300. On mine that is not working, the ring with the teeth that the pawls engage with actually rotates in the hub. I can move it by hand. Roshan said it was from over torqueing.
@@aesopcarl The hub body is not strong enough and the threaded insert ends up spinning. The Bafang motor has too much torque for it. The DT Swiss design that Roshan has is slightly better, the hub body appears harder/stronger and there are more threads on the ring. The Onyx is pretty bullet proof and its what I run. Pricey but quiet and instant engagement. The Wren is probably the DT design. My Wren fork unfortunately failed massively, the dropout separated from the tube. They sent me a replacement part but I went Mastodon instead.
This hub onyxrp.com/store/fat-bike-hubs/fat-iso-hg/fat-iso-hg-197-12mm-thru/ 266mm 14g spokes or if using the stock rim and spokes tell Onyx to drill the hub out to fit the slightly fatter stock spokes and spoke hole count. Sun Ringle 80SL v2 26" fat wheel. It requires some silicone goop to seal some of the moisture holes in the rim to keep the wheel from seeping air. Make sure to seal the pinned rim joint also.
Thats kind of rare on higher-end bikes. I have only had that happen to me once it was on my double suspension mountain bike that put through hell and it wasn't the best hub to begin with. Had to walk over 10 miles back to the car.
I had it happen once before with a DT Swiss. I now have a DT Swiss 350 Clone and it looks like it may be showing some signs of failure. I already have a laced Onxy hub to replace it when the time comes.
@@RangerReview i guess that's what happens when you have a mid Drive putting out all that power on a big bike That's why I'm still on the fence with the whole Hub driver vs mid-drive argument. Although I really dig those mid drives that run off of a belt with the internally geared hubs, but I've never seen one of those for less than five grand.
well you and another guy got a whole new wheel i had to wait 6 months to find out my bike shop wouldnt calll them and i had to pay 160$ for a new hub and and then pay them to isntall the new hub i bought my ultra fs in September and it went in october
I worked at my local bike shop for a number of years so it was very easy to get the new wheel process rolling right away. Biktrix support usually pays the shop to install the wheel or lace the new hub. I would contact support unless you were out of warranty... Keep having fun is something I have to remind myself.
@@RangerReview yeah it was 99% my LBS that took forever (6 months) LBS contacted support and tried to get only the pawls part of the hub and cause that wasn't an option they just sat on the tire and i got the run around tell i showed up with the hub i bought cause biktrix support kept telling me my LBS will deal with it 4 diff chat convos i told them my LBS is useless i bought my bike in September and i just got it back last week
I liked your attitude when broke down on the trail. No point getting pissed just figure out a way home and deal with it. What did the wheel, hub, cassette setup cost? Thanks for the video
Wheel, Hub, spokes and cassette cost around $750 and I built the wheel myself. I still have not mounted it as I am testing a prototype rear hub for durability. Thanks for Subscribing!!!
