I've brought up my son who was born in Spain to speak native speaker level English. I've written about the 5 key strategies that any parent can use(even non natives) to ensure their child speaks a second language from birth. THE 5 KEY STRATEGIES OF SUCCESSFUL BILINGUAL FAMILIES by Simon Brampton.

6:57 Please put Kiswahili in it’s proper context, linguistic imperialism is an ongoing issue in East Africa and it works efficiently in editing out decolonial thought!

I’m sorry, but that’s language. Romance languages stem from Latin and Roman dominance of Europe. Hindi stems from Urdu and the Mughal conquest. Mandarin stems from Beijing and the Ming dynasty. But they evolve, change and develop. English is simple expediency: the most powerful country in the world speaks it, it’s not massively difficult to learn (though it is to master) and it is everywhere. You may as well not call it English anymore. China has no great desire to teach Mandarin to the world does it, yet pours millions into teaching English. Spanish is no more native to Latin or South America than Dutch, but I highly doubt the governments will encourage everyone to learn Mapuche or Quechua. Nor should they. Throwing in Gramsci and Marx is a bit first year politics/sociology as well.

English has a relatively easy grammar, above all for verbs. Pronunciation is harder than grammar for a not native speaker, but is not impossible. Other languages are more difficult to learn. This is the secret of its success.

and the secret of your wide knowledge on languages is ignorance.

I don't care useless comments and rude insults. I don't know what kind of problems has this guy. I did not offend anybody.

@@lucadellalombardia9055 "i dont care" is the essence of ignorance. This video shows English as a tool of cult. imp. and the "secret of its success" is colonialism. Then u suggest that it is simply used cos its easy. And now u say u dont offend anyone? Hmmm... just half of the world. Hmmm... ur ignorance is marvelous!

@@ciszegebe But a lot of lingua Francas have come and gone but so far none has even had a fraction of the impact English has had on our contemporary globe. French could have been a lingua franca but it fell short to English largely due to complexity. There is even now a push among traditionally secondary francophone countries to push for English. Rwanda, Tunisia, and Algeria are just some of these countries. In Central Asia there is a similar attitude to replace Russian with English. Yes, a heavy part of this is due to western dominance, but English is also just a relatively simple language compared to say French, Arabic, Russian, and other languages that have had a global impact.

English's success has little to do with its supposed "simplicity". If simple grammar was a deciding factor, Russian would've never have become a lingua franca in the former Soviet Republics, and we'd be all be speaking a completely analytical language like Chinese or Bahasa Indonesia. English's success is based completely off of the United States soft and hard power, and other countries willingness (and even eagerness) to submit and propagate it themselves. I think non-native speakers of English who travel and move abroad expecting everyone to speak English are just as guilty of reenforcing the hegemony of English and natives are.

The language of the conquerors on the lips of the conquered is a language of slaves.
