I was waiting for the trains to get to the point where the guys in the caboose were waving at the guys in the locomotives but I think that would have been a bit much! 🤣 Hey, it was great to see the Hudson that Alco tried to sell to the Pennsy (but failed) again! Was the cold affecting the Hudson? Very likely. I've noticed some performance issues with my engines if the temperature's too cold. Fun video Dave, and man what a show those trains put on!
@dagryffynhobby
@dagryffynhobby 10 месяцев назад
If I had more scale boxcars I would have tried! But it would need about 25 more. I also hadn’t run that Hudson in a while and the track is dirty and it’s cold. I need to take that one completely apart and service it. Regardless I had a lot of fun filming this one!

My favorites are the Norge car and the Tropicana. Nice to see your layout coming to life with some buildings, etc. Yes, the Williams locomotives are nice. Perhaps next year folks could do a freight car challenge.

Really awesome, Dave! When I counted the cars on the outer loop (which I did a few times), I counted 34 + caboose. On the inner loop, I counted 35 + caboose. Very engaging! I hope you're satisfied with this result for now. I think it was quite stunning.

Wow, Dave, thank you for the shout out and for participating in the challenge again! I love the video and your collection of box cars like mine has really grown! You've picked up some really cool box cars. I agree that Williams EL SD locomotive is a great puller, and that FA set is sweet! Man, your layout is looking great. It was fun seeing your trains running on all four loops! Beautiful, Dave! Thank you again! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Bill B.

As always Dave you produce one heck of a video! Brains tell me the scale box cars should be best. Inv reality my heart lies somewhere between the 2454 and 3464 operating box cars are my favorite. Reason: they just look so good operating on a layout!
@dagryffynhobby
@dagryffynhobby 9 месяцев назад
Thanks so much. The scale cars run the best but the older cars are more fun! It’s always a compromise!

I won’t be telling anyone to bugger off! Probably 🤷‍♂️. I go back and forth about backwoods vs city. I really think I may have a spot or two that is busy but most will be mountains and trees.

Good job. I managed to push and pull 20, O-27 boxcars and caboose on my tight O-31 curves with a 73- year-old 6220 Lionel switcher. I believe I could have pulled more; however, the tight curves were causing derailments. Always remember, heavy cars behind the loco, light cars near the caboose. Happy New Years.

It really did very well. I had to adjust the speed a bunch at first but the it was mostly ok. It did tend to slow down in one spot because of all the curves but it still did great

They really do look better organized by scale . . . or, with the traditional cars, by the manufacturer's philosophy of the moment.

Wow Super video Dave! A veritable cornucopia of boxcars - a catalog of boxcars rolling the rails!! I was watching that and thought, “if you stretched that train out in a straight line it would nearly be as long as the lot my house sits on!” As for the Southern RR steamer not being prototypical I have a story. Lionel produced a Milwaukee Road GP-7 in the Postwar years and again in the MPC era. K-Line made one as well (I have that one). Ya know what? THE MILWAUKEE ROAD NEVER HAD GP-7s!!! They started with GP-9s. People need to leave that ‘prototype’ mindset to the 2-rail, O-scale guys. We’re in the FUN part of the hobby!!! Again, thanx for sharing this!
@dagryffynhobby

I gotta say the Baby Ruth cars stand out above all else. Maybe it’s because as a kid they were a favorite too, (rail car and candy bar). I wonder if there was ever an O’henry or Snickers candy bar box car.😊😊
@wayneantoniazzi2706
@wayneantoniazzi2706 10 месяцев назад
Yes, there WERE "Oh Henry" and "Snickers" boxcars made. I'm not sure who made the "Oh Henry" car but MTH did the "Snickers." They were made in the 90's and I'm sure they're out there somewhere.
@dagryffynhobby

And I don’t even eat Baby Ruth! I just like the car and that it was an early postwar piece. I guess the color really pops too.

Well that was fun! But what's with the cattle car in the midst of all the boxes?!( behind the 3612). And gotta ask, what under track road bed do you use? It appears sturdy and quiet.
@dagryffynhobby
@dagryffynhobby 10 месяцев назад
Cattle car just snuck its way in. I use woodland scenics track bed. It’s soft, easy to use, and really deadens the sound.

Pretty impressive, Dave. It's one thing for an engine to pull that kind of load. It's a whole nother thing going around that many curves, especially with direction changes added in. I have several of the dual can motor Williams diesel engines. They are absolute beasts, easy to service and work on and great runners, especially those equipped with flywheels. I was hoping Menards would fill this void with their offerings. I have several of the Trainmasters, SD-45, and GG1. All with little to no run time and 100 bucks and less. I'm glad you ran the Williams Hudson even though it's not prototypical. BFD. I don't own any of their steam engines but seen several for sale lately that really caught my eye and I've been contemplating getting. Very unique sound set. I kinda like it. Oh yeah nice collection of box cars. There the best. Merry Christmas and Happy rails

@wayneantoniazzi2706 10 месяцев назад
The Williams tooling and molds are out there somewhere. Whether Menard's has access to them or owns them now I've no idea. Williams trains were great value for the money, no doubt!
@dagryffynhobby
@dagryffynhobby 9 месяцев назад
Thanks so much. Yeah I’ve been very impressed with my Williams engine, also my dual motor weaver was the best $50 I ever spent. I’m still optimistic about Menards and look forward to more from them.

Thanks Dave. I find it hard to resist a good challenge. My layout is small and the curves are tighter. I had to cheat a little and use an engine at the rear to keep from derailing. But its all fun. The video is short and located here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Thj6qhzCQ0g.html

@dagryffynhobby
@dagryffynhobby 10 месяцев назад
I actually had really good luck with couplers this time. When I pull a lot of traditional sized cars, I spend a lot of time moving them around each time a coupler pops. I’ve put small rubber bands on some couplers and one or two I’ve had to glue. It’s takes time but the result is great!
@franktino6676

Dave, I use bread bag wire ties, painted black on those pernicious couplers that won't cooperate. 😊. Great video,as always! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and the family 🎅🎄🚂
