Hey Bill, I was in the Marine Corps, the infantry, my son asked me about war movies that really reminded me of the service, I told him Gallipoli from 1981. Think you'll like it, truly reminded me of the friendship and bond you had with the guy next to you.
I saw Q & A in the theater, Nick Nolte radiated a deliberate menace that quieted the packed house. You could feel the relief when his character perished. Chilling.
''Who'll Stop the Rain'' (1978) with Nick Nolte is a great f*ckin' movie, one of the greatest from the 1970s. In the excellent ''Electra Glide in Blue'' (1973) he has a very small part (if you blink you'll miss him),....
Look, I love me some Nick Nolte. "Rain?"...Really? I remember sitting there, teenage me gonna see what "Tommy Jordach," my fucking hero is gonna drop on us. Disappointed..And who the hell is "Jodie?" The pig from "Amityville Horror?"
Not too long ago I watched Siskel & Ebert's Memo to the Academy for 1990(?) and they both stated they hoped Armand Assante would get nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Q&A.
Oh yeah, "Thin Red Line,"" Travolta needling Nolte: "how long you been in the army,? never seen combat?" Nobody does rage like Nick Nolte. The airplane scene in "Mulholland Falls?" Jesus Christ! ....I'm a 70's kid Bill, a generation older than you. You know there was great acting back then, with great heroes. You can have your "Rocky," imagine being 17 and seeing Nick Nolte as "Tom Jordach" in the greatest mini-series ever filmed: "Rich Man, Poor Man" ...."Roots" for white people.
Check out Nick Nolte's 45 minute performance in "New York Stories". His segment is about an aging, abstract expressionist painter in the 80's. Also stars Rosanna Arquette and a young Steve Buscemi. Directed by Martin Scorsese.
You have to see Affliction. Nolte is completely off the hook. James Coburn plays his father in his final film role. Father and son alcoholics, Nolte is a Sheriff. There is some seriously dark shit in this movie. From a Russell Banks novel, written and directed by Paul Schrader.
Nick Nolte got a big ol squishy handful of Jennifer Connelly at the beginning of Mulholland Falls. How he got that gig I'd like to know. Pre reduction surgery. Oh my Gowd!
If baldwin had paid any attention during his training, and hadn't hated guns so much, this wouldn't have happened, and taking on an untrained, uneasy around weaponry person as the literal gun safety professional onset is unforgivable, things don't just happen, it's a combination of fuckery that leads to a tragedy like that which occurred on the set of Rust. Great vid again billy ballbags, that Nick Nolte performance is amazeballs!
speaking of nick nolte, i've been wondering if down and out in beverly hills is worth digging up? i"ve only seen it as a kid when most of the real adult stuff would have gone over my head. it's like a full 20 dollars to by over streaming and haven't seen anyone playing it in free rotation
