I used to give money to people on the street whenever I had enough to give. About a year ago a dude asked me for some help. Said he just lost his job, but had an interview at a place here that takes literally everyone. I have him the last 15 dollars in cash I had. First thing out of his mouth was "is that it? Do you have any more?" I told him "no I literally just gave you all my cash." He walked off without saying anything. The very next day I saw this dude. At the gas station by my place. He rolled up in a brand new 2023 jetta, subs and everything. He went inside. Started talking to the dude at the counter about how he had a bunch of money. Just bought the car that day, and got himself a brand new phone he was showing off. I haven't given a cent to anyone since.
I never give money to people begging, i only give to people who provide me a service like street musicians, artists, jugglers, that kind of thing. Once i was at a friend's store guy comes outsid and bega and was also bothering entering and exiting customers. My friend told him he can not beg there and if he continues he will call police but as for money while he refuses to give free money if the guy wants to clean shopping windows and sweep front he is willing to pay him a sum that would be plenty more than an average handout to a beggar. Guy refused cause he did not want to work. Makes sense cause i heard some journalist tried the begging as part of research and in a very central place was making more per hour than average sallary.
We have a local homeless guy who’s been homeless in our community for 20 years named crazy Mike. He’s actually got money too, he was a wealthy electrician company owner and going through a gnarly divorce and he’d be damned if she took a dime so he took all his money out and uprooted in a ditch for the past 20 years. Super chill guy and walks around with a 38 special in his jacket😂
I worked at MGM in Las vegas and the walkway between New york New York and the MGM hotels were full of them homeless everyday. I gave money to the ones that have the most original or honest signs.

I was walking through the park the other day and I saw this guy I thought was doing Tia chi but when I got closer it was just some guy messed up on heroin!
i deliver a long list of food products from a big bakery to stores. there was always a homeless guy at Walmart and a woman at another store nearby. so i gave them some of what i had & sweets twice, but third day was going to give a ton of bread and sweats.. but her demanded that i give him keto bread, said i don't have any so i put everything back & as i drive off, looked in my sideview mirror & caught him staring up his scat pack.... 🤨 needless to say, i stopped giving after that. a few days later they both started switching locations to keep trying
Nothing will get you to hate the homeless faster than living with them in Seattle. For five years, I would ride the Seattle Metro through downtown Seattle and I would be near third and Pike and even though you’re not on it, you still hear the stuff that’s going on. I would much rather support these new migrants then to ever give a scent to a homeless person. At least the migrants have an initiative and drive to be better.
I had a catering truck in Sf. I had the bright idea of instead of throwing away all this uneaten food just give it to the homeless. I was then informed all the other owner not only throw away the food but they destroy the food. So no one could take it out of the thrash and resell it (that happens) but also because in the past a homeless guy sued one of the truck because he got sick. Dont know it that really happend but that was the rumor. I know when did give a sandwich to a homeless guy he had wanted a soda some chips and he wanted a different sandwich. I said its free take it or leave it. He walked away still bitching. Dont feed homeless lol.
The next homeless guy could be a veteran with PTSD. You can't judge him on the last guy who was an asshole. Btw the only case that sounds like the story you heard is of some homeless guys who fell violently ill after being fed food by the city deliberately relabelled to disguise the fact it was five weeks out of date. People will use any excuse to be assholes. Also regardless of your experience there are plenty of people grateful for food. People confuse beggars with homeless. Many beggars just pretend to be homeless for drugs, many homeless, especially veterans, don't beg. Peace!
@gileshumphry you keep mentioning veterans which I never mentioned. You also say I can't judge based on my last experience. Ok cool. But then you point out most people who claim to be homeless are pretending for drugs and veterans don't beg. Again no clue why veterans were mentioned also I never said anything about anyone begging. Who stays and sleeps on the street if they are not homeless? Also for the law suit I said it could have been just a rumor or warning the other caters would say. But lastly to you I guess point how could the next one be a homeless vet with pstd since according to you the don't beg? Which is absolutely false. Maybe you weren't alive when they came back from Vietnam but I was and I saw plenty of broken guy addicted to drugs come home. Also I driving to designate stops to sell premade food to employees at businesses. I didn't see someone with a sign saying help I'm homeless give me money and think oh I'll toss him a sandwich instead. My account was also from the 1990's just for more transparency.
NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT! That is what is wrong with today's youth. You don't just get rid of the dog. Teach your kids consequences. Action- Reaction. Raise your kids and your pets right. They will both be better for it.
