I will say if you are a 21yr old virgin man the peril in dating is that you may be less particular with who you fall into a relationship with and not as concerned with compatibility as you should be.

My husband and I have been together since we were both 20, and now we are both 35. We got to grow and experience life together and are still madly in love and the best of friends. Zero regrets. (No kids btw)

They both have decent points, but what neither one said at the beginning (and should have) is that if you either fall in love with the first person you bang, or your first is someone you started out feeling love for as an inexperienced young adult, that person has an unspoken power in your life. The bond you make with them can be wonderful, and if you stay together for life that's a fairy tale best-ending sitch... But what if it unravels? What if they dump you, or it falls apart anyway, and you're left wondering how you go on living or what you can even do with your life? And I feel like especially for guys, that's important to consider, since many of us (not all) are more prone to dealing with emotions through violence, AND many of us (again, NOT all) don't believe in therapy or would never try it. Those situations end with either hurting or offing yourself, hurting or offing that person because "you betrayed me" or "if I can't have you no one can", or even worse, buying a weapon and mowing down a dozen innocent people because you've just gone mental and can't deal with it. So guys should have sex a few times, ideally, with people they're not attached to before they do with someone who truly matters to them. It gives a young, stupid guy some perspective on the world and themselves that's not only helpful, but could save their life, their partner's life or tens of innocent bystanders' lives. It shouldn't be that way, but that's the reality we live in.

My partner and I have been together since we were 18 and we were each other’s first real relationship so after 10 years of living together and often working together I asked him if a part of him regretted not having more experience like a lot of his friends who have had more then one girlfriend. He told me that although a part of him was curious he didn’t want to end a good relationship just to play the field so we decided to started opening up our relationship, in a very small ways. For now we’ve only done stuff together with other people at adult parties but we both agree that we don’t want to date anyone else, just have some fun and have some new experience. I think there’s a way to have your cake and eat it too if you are honest with your partner and respect each other’s boundaries.

You learn something from everything. From some things you learn what to do. From other things you learn what not to do. The experience gained from young love is like nothing else. It may not be perfect, but it is an expernience like nothing else. Personally, I reccomend it.
