Bell bottoms were in the 70’s!!! This was one of the first rock n roll songs of the 50’s. I was born in 1956 so was raised on the “oldies”

This song has a special memory for me. I wasn't born until 1974, but when I was a bit older and started learning the guitar from my dad, he would reminisce about his days in his (very local Michigan) band, and when "Rock Around the Clock" came on, he would talk about how his band would cover the song, and it got the crowds really pumped. Good memories with him. Have to wait until Resurrection to see him again, but until then, I'll remember him whenever this song is played.

My mom was a teenager when this came out. She graduated from high school in ‘59 and grew up on this music. She even saw Elvis live in the ‘50s, when he was still just wearing a nice suit to perform.

No bell bottoms…they were late 60’s early 70’s…this was in the 50,s…I was born in 1958 … my parents loved good music and were great dance partners. So, I grew up listening to this and many other classics like this!!! BTW, that dance is called the jitterbug!!!SO FUN!!!

My mother was 19 in 1955, and she said if a good song came on the car radio, a lot of times they'd pull over, everybody would get out and dance. Song ended, back in the car!

Kids dancing on furniture was symbolic of the type of mania that existed during 1955 and on. Rock n roll was "new", and these rock n roll shows were selling out like crazy. Teen-agers went berserk.

My mom and dad were both teenagers when the whole rock and roll craze came on the scene. They were brought up in conservative families. So they didn’t go crazy and scream and stuff at concerts or anything. But they listened, LOVED, and made sure that their own kids enjoyed music as much as they did.

It was the lead song in the soundtrack of the movie "Blackboard Jungle" starring Glenn Ford, Anne Francis, and Sydney Poitier. It put rock 'n roll, as such, right in the face of the nation and the Western world.

I saw the Comets (Bill Haley had already died) around 2002. It was their last tour, the youngest was 72 and the oldest was 82. This video didn't show what they were really like live, they were far more energetic than what you saw in the video. My husband and I were surprised to see how many 25 or so year-olds were there, all dressed up in poodle skirts and "greaser" clothes! Those old men up on that stage took it to those 25 year-olds and ran them into the ground! They didn't do one single slow song all night and my husband and I laughed our asses off seeing these kids half our ages staggering off the dance floor!

Man I must be old my Mom saw Elvis in 1957. This song came out in 1955. You can really feel the swing in this song. Go back to the World War II era and listen to the swing music from then an see Bill Haley took that sound and beat and turned it into Rock and Roll. Go back and listen bands like Glen Miller to hear how Swing came to be rock and roll by mixing in some blues gave birth to Rock and Roll.

You 2 should listen to the music of Red Sovine. He had several hits in the 60's. My step-dad was a truck driver and these songs are very special to me. I understand the hardship on truckers and their families. And truckers are the lifeline of America. These songs came out at a time when truckers were considered trash by many law enforcement officials. They were constantly being harassed by corrupt towns.

Some history about older music from back then a lot of people don't know. Most bands had a clean set and a dirty set. They would play the clean set until 1 am in the morning, then they would do their dirty set. Most of these songs were never recorded. But there is a couple of dirty songs on RU-vid you can find from back then. Try this one out. == Jackie Wilson & LaVern Baker - Think Twice Version X 1965

Half And Jai, When this song was first released it was not a hit. This song was played over the end credits of the movie " Blackboard Jungle." In England this film became a big hit, just because people wanted to hear the song not watch the film so much. Slowly it got more airplayin the U.S. and became a No.1 hit. At New Year parties this is the song that brings in the New Year. Played at the stroke of midnight. It can still get you up and danceing. Rock and Roll starts here. Cheers, Chris Perry.
