This guy Kaz, and V. Alexieve from Soviet Union were my inspirations as a youth. Now in my early 60s I still idolize them.

He is my Idol. What an impressive strongman, athlete, and humanitarian. He inspired my 9 year old son to be the best he can be through taking an interest in him at a speech he made and I hope to inspire my son in the future like Kaz once did.

Bill is amazing. I love seeing the low gear lifting and super deep squats. Kick ass vid. Thanks.

this is what motivated me in the 80's to start lifting i say 80's cause i was a teenager but i started lifting with guys like this who made fun of you if you didn't go low on a squat. much less a meet go to a local gym and see what they call squats these days looks like walk out to me. cause of hip problems can only squat round 405 now but i would'nt change nothing. kaz yu're one of my hero's.

Awesome look on his face before going under the bar for the 826lbs squat.
@dkjdkj74
@dkjdkj74 10 лет назад
That's so cool. I have no sound, but I can tell Bill is upset that his 2nd Deadlift didn't pass, because despite lifting the weight easy he let it fall a few inches when he was done...His last attempt he clearly lowers it while holding it and looks at the judges!

David Jaworski That judge was so intimidated from just that stare he tried to have Kaz evicted from the building. True story
@whfd322
@whfd322 14 лет назад
That was cool vintage stuff. My brother called me from up north. He met Kaz last week and Kaz said he doesnt even lift weights any more. These guys were great. Did you see Kaz needing help to get his squat suit down. You are right derek. He wasnt really unequipped. A squat suit that tight is almost as good as one used now. I never realized that. thanks for posting the vid dude. Hope all is well.

Lol. I just knew he was going to hold on to it extra long to make a point. I like how he looks up at the judges, just holding it for an extra five seconds after it's on the platform. "Good enough, bitches?"
@Crocodile25
@Crocodile25 15 лет назад
I agree. Every single event now is an endurance event, usually doing a weight for numerous reps, or doing some sort of carrying/pushing event that is over 30 seconds long. I think there needs to be an equal mix of those events with the pure 1 rep max type strength events for it to be as exciting as it could be. And I wish they would be creative with the events like they were in the early 80's...

Kaz is one of the few powerlifters that has a perfect squat. Today its a miracle if the heavy squatters get down to parallel . Mike Millers 1220 squat is not 1/4 of the way down that kaz squat is.

The most important thing to note about this video is that he is also a powerlifter, like modern powerlifters today, also lifting similar weights in similar lifts. The difference? Kaz goes ass to grass with 825 lbs in a textbook form squat, and it's easy for him. Modern powerlifters 1/2 squat 1200 lbs in multiple layer suits, and they struggle to do so. We should all learn from this man's lifting and strive to achieve the same, not the mockery of lifting that is today's powerlifting.
@derkypoo42
@derkypoo42 16 лет назад
it would have to be some point after he stopped doing WSM after 83 i think. that marathon suit wasn't around before then. plus he was lifting injured and just lifting enough to win. sandbagging basically
@SJRogers0786
@SJRogers0786 15 лет назад
He made that squat look waaaaaaaaaaaay too easy.
@lutonmale1983
@lutonmale1983 16 лет назад
I think the reason the descent on his second deadlift is deliberately slow is to prevent the bar from slipping out of his hands. The first deadlift did not count as a 'good lift' as Kaz did not have 'control' of the bar all the way down to the floor.
@NorwichGrad97
@NorwichGrad97 14 лет назад
@krakistophales I agree 100%. The problem with the sport of powerlifting is that there are so many federations. Multiple feds, multiple rules. Whereas Olympic weightlifting only has 1 fed.

Great pause on the bench and the depth of those squats! In those days they proved it to themselves, they didn't get try and get the biggest numbers with the cheapist tricks.
@derkypoo42
@derkypoo42 11 лет назад
his lifts were at most 90% aside from the bench where he was recovering from a pec tear in WSM. he took easy lifts and buried them cause that's all he needed to win.
@Vazcular
@Vazcular 14 лет назад
@fmarotte He would have eventually gotten 700 RAW IMO. That pec tear from bending the steel bar in the 81' WSM really effected him from then on.
@hjejmnse1

Not like most people think. Kurt Angle could Squat 225x 75 or 50 and his one rep max was around 500. His brother couldn't do that but his one rep max was 720. When you get up to 20 reps + the person with the best endurance will win.

yea but derkypoo42, dude, ya still gotta give Kaz credit for this lift. The guy was a monster (and still is) and was lifting those weights like they were nothing. The other competitors were wearing the same quality gear and it's quite obvious they were struggling with their weights. See the other clip of this lifting meet (with sound btw).

@mixer14316 13 лет назад
@krakistophales I COULDN'T agree with you more. I never see powerlifters going that low anymore. Yes, they handle obsene weights, but they have very wide stances and don't go that low. Kaz was, and is, the man. Just unreal watching him on that squat. You're right.

Not only deep on the squat but that is not one of the goofy squat suits of today that need 800 lbs before you can get them to break. Also those knee wraps are little more that ace bandages.

does anyone know when this meet was. If I recall his Raw record was 2450 and these weights didn't look anywhere near that number. And to repeat what a lot of people are saying on this site, could you imagine what he could have done with todays supplements and gear (bench shirt, squat suit - not roids, they had that then).
@hawg427

How fast his 3rd squat went up he could have hit 950 & maybe 1000lb squat that day.

@JohnS0045 i know rite? but kaz did bench 660 one time in his life! The man is a total beast i think if he wanted to hie could have sq 900 bp 650 and dl 900 all raw which would crush any total today 2,450lbs!

@ofnair

Benchshirts first arrived in the 90's, and Lars did not use different equipment than Kazmaier, just kneewraps just like Kazmaier did. The only squatsuit by that time that arrived as early as the time of Kazmaiers world records, int hte 70's I believe, was Spanjan, a very primitive suit. Noréns best total was 1075, just 25 kg away from Kazmaier, that was becouse he did "only" benchpress 260 kgs.
@SuperBrucelee96
@SuperBrucelee96 11 лет назад
225 pound bench press for 50 reps would put you at a 460+ pound bench press because 225x20 would equal a 363.6 pound bench press for 1 max rep

equipment IS banned in the RAW PL-federations. But they are always small and attract little interest. Apparently, the people want to see gear, and the lifters want to use it. Everyone likes big numbers.
