ROFL. Yeah that is why 95% of the league (the players that had to share the court with both of them) at the time thought that Laimbeer and Bird were equally dirty, and that the Celtics were the dirtiest team in NBA history before the Pistons got that label. That is Michael Jordan talking. But you know better, huh? Stop talking, you are embarrassing yourself. Go tell Jordan that he doesn't know what he lived through, and you know better. Go tell James Worthy, who says the Celtics were dirtier than the Pistons, that you know better. Ever see the Mchale foul on Kurt Rambis? Made the Laimbeer foul on Bird look like a warm hug. Stop with the fan-boy BS, and let knowledgeable people talk.

I think Larry's and Laimbeer's dirty playing was really different. Larry wasn't elbowing, he never tried to cause injuries. His "dirty playing" was smartly playing at the limit of the rules

Puking now. BULLSHIT! You just heard Michael Jordan say 95% of NBA players would say either Bill or Larry as the dirtiest. That is the whole league at the time. You wanna say that wasn't true because you don't feel like it in 2022? The entire league knew the Celtics as the dirtiest team in NBA history before the Bad Boys got that label. Where do you think the Pistons learned it from? When Isiah Thomas says that the Celtics taught the Bad Boys EVERYTHING, he meant EVERYTHING. You want to change history because you have RU-vid video fan-boy-itis over Bird, you have watched too many highlights of him and nobody shows you the lowlights. A little advice. Stop believing 16 year old RU-vidrs, and start believing the players who played at the time. You will have a more accurate version of history. Unless, of course, you just believe what makes you feel good. In which case, there is no hope for you.

Back in the day, Larry was targeted a lot by opposing teams because everyone knew he was the engine for Celtics success…so, the plan was to injure him or get him disqualified somehow so that he couldn’t play, and the other team wins. That’s what ended up happening when Bird threw that ball. Larry ejected, Celtics lose. This was deliberate. Injure the players, get them disqualified etc….the Pistons DESERVED their Bad Boy nickname.

Larry didn't mind "dirty play" perse, he was physical and didn't shy away from the rough play as long as it is within the boundaries of the game. He did some of those things himself and got creative with it. In the Michael interview, MJ continued by explaining that Larry's style of dirty play was smart: "He's pull down your shorts and stuff like that, or knock you off balance cause he can't jump to block a shot etc..." vs "Laimbeer is good at hard fouls." It just came down to how Laimbeer tried to actually hurt you in a way that you would twist your ankle, get elbowed in the face etc...

I don't recall Bird having the rep of a "dirty" player. He was scrappy & verbally agitated. He was as physical as everyone else in the league. He hated Lambeer not for being aggressive & physical but for, in his view, trying to inflict game/season/career-ending injuries. Bird didn't.

Watch it in slow motion. I’m not a Laimbeer fan. I never liked the pistons. I love Larry. I’m trying to look at the play objectively even though there was a history there for sure of dirty play. It was only going to take one thing whether it was Inadvertent, or advertent to set things off.

Cheap shots to hurt someone by coming up on their back, getting under their foot on a jump shot to twist their ankle or flopping on the floor pretending injury are deceitful and cowardly. Warping History to defend a narrative is getting all too common nowadays, and this one is easy to spot. You do not care about the truth, only keeping your half-assed evaluations, so you can pat yourself on the back for following the ignorant crowd and believing the proper BS narrative, the one that you heard a lot of people say, therefore is the acceptable position, or you are just a fanboy who will believe whatever makes him feel good. Laughable? You got me rolling. Guessing you are a leftist? Why don't you actually stop listening to the biased, and do some unbiased research for yourself. Yes, Detroit were "the bad boys" back then, but Laimbeer was a whole other thing-- the man is just a p.o.s. And for the video to talk about "beef" between Bird and Laimbeer is misleading, because there was beef between pretty much all opposing players and Laimbeer, because he was vicious, and tried to injure players to get them out of the game and regularly did things that he knew could inflict season-ending, or even career-ending injuries. Even Parish, who so far as I know rarely said much, talked about Liambeer's regularly positioning his foot so as to get Parish to land on it when Parish came down from a shot, trying to injure Parish's ankle...which he succeeded in doing often enough that Bird commented on it, and Parish finally got furious enough about it to take his revenge. And if that wasn't low, piggish and disgusting enough, when despite his sneakiness the refs caught him at it, he'd whine like a little spoiled brat, acting as if he was being persecuted when if fact, for some reason I never understood, the officials cut him a ton slack, regularly turning a blind eye to his blatant and outrageous, violent fouls. I've never hated a player like I hated him...though I didn't think much of Rodman and the others holding Bird back and pinning his arms behind him while Erving was full-force punching him (and I thought it was kind of punky of Erving to keep punching while Bird was being held back like that by Erving's teammates). Bird's and other players' reaction to Laimbeer was nothing to do with team rivalry or anything personal, other than Laimbeer's being a filthy, whiny, destructive player.
