Bill Laurance performs his composition "Red Sand" with the WDR BIG BAND at WDR Studio 4 in November 2018. The arrangement is by Bob Mintzer, principal conductor of the WDR Big Band. Solos are performed by Johan Hörlén on alto saxophone and principal conductor Bob Mintzer on tenor saxophone. Guest on percussion is Bodek Janke.
A wider audience may be familiar with Bill Laurance as a founding member and longtime keyboardist of the internationally successful collective Snarky Puppy. Laurance is a very versatile musician who has a musical range that is almost unmanageable. In the fall of 2018, the British musician met the WDR BIG BAND for the first time, and the collaboration resulted in a joint concert at the Kölner Philharmonie.
This production resulted in the CD "Bill Laurance & WDR BIG BAND."

Such a beautiful and rich sound achieved by the sound engineers - they got this spot on. Worth listening to over again! And of course a great piece of music by Bill Laurance in the first place! WDR put a fantastic twist on this arrangement.

great Music by Bill Laurance: a great Musician, really! Bob Mintzer very smart director, maybe orchestrator too, but a great person surely, saxophonist on the top of the world! WDR one ofe the best Fusion/orchestral group on the world !

Great groove and great arrangement. Johan Hörlén- give me a break. He's just so good. Bob Mintzer follows up and there is a wild cat inside him - we hear that. What a musician, composer an arranger - respect! Great production and great performance. The problem is that you are very productive. But I try to follow what you create of great music with groove, improvisation and great arrangements and productions. Continue, please.😊👍
