The number of food banks in the UK has quadrupled in the last few years. The majority of people who use them are in work. As part of the Robin on the Road trip Bill Nighy visits one.

When the British media report that the economy is growing they mean a very small minority of very wealthy people are getting wealthier on the back of cheap labour. And we are expected to applaude it. Exponential growth of food banks should be a clue as to the true state of affairs, for anyone with any doubts. The Institute of Fiscal Studies predicts a sharp increase in the pace of public service spending and they recently stated that "there's even more austerity than we'd expected". No surprise

Just Joined the Labour party this morning. Here's why: if you earn £42,474 and you other half earns £42,474 (total £84,948) you keep your child benefit. If you earn £42,476 and your other half earns £0 (total £42,476.) you will lose your child benefit. That is totally against natural justice and a complete inequity. Yet another disgrace.

Our taxes need to be spent on the people who pay/paid them - first and foremost. Not ringfenced for foreign aid. We have had children suffering from malnutrition in this country for several years - now there is an increasing problem of malnutrition among the elderly. There will always be undeserving chancers trying to exploit charity but rapidly increasing numbers of working people are being driven to destitution with shit wages, stealth taxes and escalating living costs.
