A Vitaphone short film from 1934 which shows Bill Robinsons's gambling nature. It also features two of his tap routines: "Bill Robinson Stomp" (04:53) (which was featured as a production number in "Harlem Is Heaven" 1932) and "Bill Green's famous tap dance" to "Old Folks" (11:07), which uses basically the steps of his "Doing The New Low Down".

My late grandfather told me as a youth that Bill Robinson would get mad than to bring out his pistol when he was losing gambling. And use to hide when he heard his wife was looking for him while gambling.

Check out the movie "Pitch A Boogie Woogie" also by the Warner Bros. One of the dancers featured was a friend of my grandmother who was also a dancer.

Interesting to see the depiction of a black boss with white underlings in 1934, and a white dance instructor dismissed by Bill after calling him 'boy'. Times were beginning to change. But sad to see Bojangles's gambling addiction exploited for laughs. The film follows the convention of chorus girls with lighter skin tones than the men's- more 'feminine'. None could literally be called Black Orchids. Same as at the Cotton Club, where 'high yellow' girls danced for an all-white clientele.

He's not white. and times were changing??? that was the worse time for black people. times didn't change until decades later... everybody in this film were black. This movie was filmed in 1934 In 1934, America was astoundingly segregated and very very racist, especially Hollywood, this short film is called race movie.. And race movies typically all black cast. The Black American community consists of many different looking People, from very very light to very very dark.
