Against Olajuwon "He's quicker then me but I'm faster then him"..... ???what??? It's dumbass comments like that that kinda explain why in the most crucial moments, in plyoff & final games, he'd make THE MOST Brain Neutral Plays to LOSE the game for his team or simply come up HELLA Short...... nobody seems to Ever WANT to talk about that FACT
In sports, the word fast often refers to top speed while quick refers to the ability to accelerate at a rapid rate despite this not being the definition of either word. Could you mention a single clutch brain dead moment that Wilt made in the clutch? Look up the endings of the 1960, 1962, 1965 (especially) and the 1968 Wilt vs Russell series and you will see that Wilt made far more plays in the clutch than Bill. The difference between the two was that Russell’s teammates stepped up in the clutch while Chamberlain’s wilted.
I agree Gabriel. I watched them play on TV in the early 60's. Wilt was dominant but Bill had the team behind him but there was nobody that could come close to Wilt Chamberlains abilities. May be the best athlete in the 20th century.
For real, his whole demeanor on segments like this are those of a true comedian, man is just cracking up lol and you know these two love to shoot some shit and crack a laugh with each other by the way they go at it
Exactly i was gonna comment that , bill love wilt 's jokes , you can just wish u get a girl who laughs for your jokes like bill does for wilt , no wonder he lived so long
@@siam9914 Young Wilt was a good free throw shooter. Even younger Wilt was dunking his free throws. Only later when his strainght increased immensely, his percentage dropped as it happens with all super strong players.
When Wilt was asked to name his top 5 of all time he did not hesitate to first mention Larry Bird. Then he hesitated…and mentioned Larry Bird a second time. Then it was Russell’s turn and he mentioned Larry without any thought needed. To have these two late greats both mention Larry in their top 5 tells me all that I need to know about what the past greats think of him. This interview is a treasure because Wilt would be gone soon after, and now we have lost Bill. I have this saved where I can always easily watch it again. Hearing Bill”s contagious laugh is alone worth it!
Bill used to go to Wilt’s house when they played Philly. Wilt’s mom used to make him lunch and he would take a nap in Wilt’s bed. Then Bill would show no mercy that night.
Had to come back to this, to really appreciate the two greatest big men to ever play the game. Absolutely lovable personalities and friends like no other rivals are. I really wish I could’ve seen them go at each other live. RIP Bill Russell, RIP Wilt Chamberlain.
@@hoponpop3330 Wilt could do anything..including singing there is a song he did, which is pretty good around 1960 or so on RU-vid. What's wierd is I can't associate the voice on the record with Wilt's...
@dogeisverycoolyes8265 Well, they are not. The only way they can be in the future though is when both have uttered the statement of faith before they passed.
Damn, these guys are naming some real OG legends like Bob Petit, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West you hardly hear these names in top 5’s these days anymore. Bill and Wilt got to play and witness some great legends
@ycfu xo- Bob Petit was the first player to score 20000 points. Elgin Baylor at 6'5" was the first player to play above the rim. He could do things Jordan, Kobe, Dr. J and LeBron can only dream of. Sad there is no film or video footage of Baylor in action. And West- well his likeness is on the NBA logo. What more can you say.
I remember when bull Russell said that john havlicek was probably the best all around player he ever saw...afew more names mentioned and hondos name likely would have come up ..or kareems
Imagine right now, as Kareem said, it’s gonna be difficult for kids to talk about his era when the game has changed so drastically . I’m only 18.. to be frank lebron james is my old head which compared to bill n wilt is crazy
@@MIKEK3NT One of the reasons that Wilt scored a century was that despite being a lifetime @60% free throw shooter, he shot 28 /32 or 87.5% in the game. Btw the score of that game was 162 - 100 and the Knicks were the loser.
This interview shows why Russell was a cerebral assassin. He was an innovator like no other and just a once in a lifetime of athletics, brain and talent.
He was the most dominant player ever, grabbing 40 rebounds a game, the reason they won! Put him in his prime on the Hawks right now, they beat the Warriors
I noticed that. These 2 greats picked bird on their alltime lists. That’s goosebump impressive. Larry bird had the mind like no one else. Well maybe MJ...... huge respect to the bird feom these legends.
@@simplysimple7628 Bill Russell was the only peer Larry had in court smarts - quite a few folks a tier down, but those two were incomparable except against each other.
Bill named Bird third, does not matter much, but Bird was the greatest all-round player ever, and was the best shooter and passer ever, plus I have yet to see LB's fake move encyclopedia in any other player... It's not even close
@@loesrohof5161 Agreed about Bird being the greatest ALL-AROUND player ever. Some ppl get confused when I say that Michael Jordan is the GOAT, but that Bird has the best ALL-AROUND game ever. But I explain that the reason I have MJ as the GOAT is due to how dominant he was on the offensive AND defensive end, but when it comes to showcasing a player's great attributes (clutch shooting, FT shooting, passing, rebounding, making other teammates better, mentally tough, etc.), no other player can match Bird in a broad sense of what he could (& did) do on the court.
If either one of these icons was white, the respect would still be there. That ought to tell us something. Nothing phoney, just genius about the game of basketball anf life.
Wilt averaged 18 PPG for his finals career (even tho he averaged atleast 20 PPG every regular season untill his last two seasons... with a 2-4 finals record two of those losses came from Knicks Willis reed outplaying wilt how can he be top 10 when he barley won 2 titles Russ was 11-0 in game 7s 18 PPG and 29 REB averages in those 10 games Russell won 5 mvps ( 3 straight ) and Celtics missed the playoffs for a couple years straight after Russ retired despite not losing anyone other Sam Jones and he was replaced by HOF jojo white Russell played with four members of the NBA's Top 50 at 50 (Havlicek, Cousy, Sharman, and Sam Jones); Wilt played with six members (Baylor, West, Greer, Cunningham, Arizin, and Thurmond). And Russell's teammates from 1957 to 1969 were selected to twenty-six All-Star games, while Wilt's teammates from 1960 to 1973 were selected to twenty-four. Let's never mention the supporting-cast card again with Russell and Chamberlain. Thank you. Wilt never was the leading scorer in the finals when he won In fact he was the 5th leading scorer in the 1967 finals 5th LEADING SCORER ON HIS OWN TEAM ALONE, wilts game was never that of a winner bill was the more clutch cerebral player 3 times in the finals he averaged 20+ PPG and another finals series he had 70%FG on near 20 PPG,
I'm 33 and my dad would tell me all about the battles Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell would have and how he would listen to every game on the radio in little Franklin Ohio, I love seeing these old videos of these two legends because it brings those stories to life. What makes it even better is how good of friends they were. What gets me the most in this interview is how differently the two would analyze the game and opponents but they would still come to the same conclusion, they both new the game so well. RIP to two legends of the game.
I'll say this - give Larry Bird a body that is above average, not even Wilt, LBJ, or MJ type of body, and he becomes the best player of all time. If he was just a tad bit more athletic with the same skill and mindset, he would, without a doubt, be the greatest player of all time.
@@mac_n_cheesie Early bird was pretty athletic, def more athletic than magic and id say above average. His main issue was his back injury 85 which turned him into a non-athletic player and cut his career short.
Jane Doe Barkley’s personality was very similar to Wilt’s. Plus they both played for the sixers and Barkley’s was a ferocious, tenacious player who played bigger than his height and I’m sure wilt respected that.
I really loved seeing this. Bill Russel’s laugh was so infectious! It was just really cool seeing them together, and heartwarming as well. As a Bird fan, it was great to hear Wilt say Larry Bird as he started his list of his top players. Much respect and RIP to both of them.
This interview is so eye opening, every older generation believes their time was much better and tougher. Look at those guy talking about the 90’s, and the way the 90’s players talk about today’s players. Specially after the last dance came out
Wilt and four UCLA freshmen beat Magic and four NBA stars in a pickup game when Wilt was 43 years old. Coach Larry Brown tells the story in a TV interview.
@@sunsfan8535 Oh yes it happened. The New Jersey Nets was going to sign him to a contract for a playoff run because he was able to hold his own at an advanced age playing against players of the 1980’s This man was bench pressing over 400 pounds and dunking well in his 50’s.
One never can appreciate the size of Wilt...but when he is sitting next to Bill Russell, it is amazing. Broad shoulders, long legs...and he still looks (in the interview) as if he could suit up and dominate. Amazing.
@@casualfandestroyer2503 you’re dumb as fuck and have never watched a game from the 60s. You just went on basketball reference and looked up accolades. You know nothing about NBA history, idiot.
@@MichaelCorleone_ Looking back, Wilt had five chances to knock Near ready to retire bill Russell out of the playoffs in ‘68 (3-1 lead ) and ‘69 (3-2 lead ) with a superior team-including two game 7s at home-and only needed to submit one monster performance to pull it off. Each time, he couldn’t do it .Each time , Russell’s inferior team prevailed. Each time wilt whines about it afterward. If Jerry west was MR clutch , than wilt was MR crutch
@@casualfandestroyer2503 I never mentioned wilts teammates clown, in fact I haven’t even defended him once yet you’re sending paragraphs lol, are you a bot?
Wilt Chamberlain before the knee injury , was the greatest player ever and that included everyone since : Jordan, LeBron, etcetera . Chamberlain even though 7'1" and huge long arms could lick a coin of the top of the backboard . He only needed to jump from his sneaker souls to floor a couple inches to get a dunk or rebound . But the bottom of his feet souls were as high or higher off the ground as the amazing short armed 5'3' Muggsy Bogues dunking . When he scored those 100 points he was taking the ball full court, dribbling between his legs, behind his back and so on . The reason he only won two NBA titles is because his coaches and team owners wanted wilt to be the show to bring in more revenue, no team game . His career spanned from 1959 to 1973 . He won his first NBA ring in 1967 Philadelphia 76rs and his last year of his career with the 1973 LA Lakers Russell said once we knew Wilt was going to get his 30 or more points but we knew that since we played team ball we would win . And that was the truth . He did play on an LA team that played team ball in the NBA finals and they won and wilt retired after that . fact was after his knee injury his mobility was severely limited . He lifted weights, put on weight and became an impenetrable force under and near the basket . but it was sad to see he could only jump up and down and no more jump forward, backward, or laterally like he did prior to the severe knee injury . Post knee injury around 1970 to end of his career, He had to crouch down bend his knees before he jumped and so many times opponents would take the ball away from him or tie him up. back then orthopaedic physicians were butchers really . they had no idea of reconstructing a torn acl ligament which is one of the things he lost because of his knee injury .

So I'll clear the elephant in the room. Since no one notices the things I notice. Bill was great and so was Wilt. Bill has 11 rings 2 rings. But Bill acknowledges Wilt was a better player. So rings don't matter. It's a TEAM game. People really need to understand this!
Not really. There's an interview with Russell somewhere on You Tube where he was asked who was the greatest of all time. Russell immediately said, "Well, the question you really mean to be asking is: when you're a player in the NBA what is your job? Most people will say to play professional basketball." Russell shook his head. "Our job is to do one thing and one thing only: win championships. That's what an NBA player is paid to do. Win championships. That's it. Now I ask you, who did that better than anyone?" At which point he broke into that famous smile and high pitched cackle.
Rest in peace to Wilt. Such a magnetic personality. But the other thing that struck me in this interview was the humility and cerebrality of Bill Russell.
@@edcor2578 you're not only missing the point but missing your brain as well. The game went into double OT, every player on that court didn't know who was going to win, that's how close OT games are.
@@simple45679 Bird knew he was going to win. He told the team before the series started Jordan is going to score a lot of points no matter what so, Let's lock down the other four. One can't beat five. That was the point. Did you get it?

Man, SIR or Mr Bill Russell is such a jolly fellow, shows the man enjoyed every aspect of his life, and why would he not have being a giant of a man in the land of the Giants accumulating wealth, health, success, intelligence, love, generosity, a sense of well being, a gift of life from the Almighty no doubt as one of his faithful servant.
Judging by Wilt's appearance, you would think he has many years left still, but instead, he passes away shortly after this interview....life is weird....
