God I loved this game. Had tourneys on the Genesis with this, NBA Live 95, World Series Baseball and NHL 95. Damn we were serious about sports games back then.
I got this INSTEAD of Madden that year on accident (grandparents don't know the difference); and I ended up loving it. I played it constantly for months
My cousin and I battled on this game for many years! We still believe to this day that the name of the team on top before the coin toss has something major to do with who gets the benefits of the calls that game. We found at least one glitch in the game on 2 point conversions. If the offense fumbles the ball and pulls all their players away fast enough the defense recovers and has to kick off to the team who just scored a TD! We would always try to find the one fast guy who was at 100% speed and health and hadn't been used all game and he would run so fast that the pitch got fumbled on the 2 point conversion. This game is as good as any college football game out there with the way it captures things in college like the diving, the guy being caught from behind, the wind, etc.
Looks a lot like Madden, from graphics, to plays (Def, not Off formations), to video boxes of the crowd. I guess EA just substitued John Madden for Bill Walsh and went for it!
It's definitely the same engine, but overall this game is the best iteration EA released from that engine. College Football 96 and 97 improved a few cosmetic and functional things but lost a lot of what made 95 so enjoyable.
Such a classic. These games are so pure. This is before EA developed Cheat AI and "Beast Mode" as the only ways to challenge human gamers. Takes me back. I might just have to go buy a Genesis to play this one more time.
@bentiale both games were great for the time, i had them both, its been so long since i played them that i couldnt really give you a reason why one wasbetter than the other, what was it that you think was better? thanks and take care, thanks for mentioning the "joe" montana for sega
Seeing this made me wanna burst into tears. lol Nah not really...but this was my first game EVER...and I played it 'til it jumped out of my Sega and screamed, "ENOUGH!!!!!"
i was never great at this game...guys in college that were could still never beat me when they played me...I only ran 2 plays with michigan...loved this game!!
This was the early NCAA, and it follows the same style. Remove nfl, players, numbers etc...for NCAA stuff. I liked it when you would get scolded by the coordinators for screwing up.
