Bill Withers whole album that year was fire. Especially when the family would get together on weekends the music would be playing on the stereo. This was in the early 70's.
You would really love Black Sabbath "Iron Man," Boston "Rock and Roll Band" and "Smokin" then Pat Benatar "Promises in the Dark" and "Shadows of the Night."

I love the joyous defiance in this song, all the way through from the lyrics to the groove. Sometimes you can’t explain to anyone else why you can’t do without someone. Withers is a workingman’s hero: learned to play on his day job, got some hits and became a full time musician, went through the grind for a few years until he got sick of the industry, said “I’m out,” and that was the end of his career until his son got old enough to collab with.

My favorite version of this amazing song. Bill was an extremely talented guy. Love the level of funk they brought to this live version though. Doesn’t get much better.

They're not covers the versions of the song that are just as powerful as bill Wither's song. This is my fave Bill Withers tune without a doubt. So funky. I do love funk and soul. Bill Withers has a good catelogue of great songs. He is so underrated and fantastic.
