Bill Wyman is 4 years older than Tom Jones, so he certainly had a personal point when he asked 'Is Tom Jones that old?'. Jones' audience was broadly older than the Stones' despite his top ten hits in the Pop charts because Jones was essentially a cabaret singer who sang versions of standards and other people's contemporary hits including ones by Beatles and the Stones, with an orchestral backing which was at the time considered old fashioned.

I can see how you would feel that way about Dick Safety but I think Cavett was just like that, see him with Hendrix, Joplin, Brando etc. maybe especially with those who were outside the intellectual and/or political sphere. Cavett tended to ask "what if" type questions - so hypotheticals - to try to get his subjects to think in ways they otherwise might not often do. Wyman seemed pretty good natured about it all - whereas somebody a bit more prone to an outburst of temper - say like John Lennon - Cavett was probably more careful with his questions in those cases.

He's the oldest Stone too. I know he left after the 94' tour, which I saw at The Rose Bowl and it was AWESOME! Seriously, at 13 I almost saw 81' at the LA Col where Prince was an opening act, but my 14 yr old BF and I told his uncles who had 2 xtra tix and a Motorhome, "Nah we're into Rush", and didn't accept free tickets to see The Stones last young performance. Next was 89' with Axle and by then was a major fan but that IMO wasn't a great show. 94' was awesome and in 2000 at the Anaheim Pond I had seats directly above the stage and they still moved like 25 yr olds, that was the 2nd best after 1994.

Stones got their start covering US blues artists one of most prolific was bassist singer songwriter Willie Dixon, I'd ask him all about that, they also covered Jimmy Reed and Chuck Berry I'd have asked him all about that ...

Can never understand why he left the Stones. Proper English rock star voice. And why do these American interviewers always try and sound so clever and catch them out?

do have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like all the other Dick Cavett shows.

It's very very good, even better than I'd hoped, very creative animation bits. My only 2 criticisms....NOT LONG ENOUGH, and not enough shop talk about Bass! The smartest Stone. I have cds and DVDs of solo and Rhythm Kings music. He's had a happier time since leaving the Stones. Hope you've got ahold of the documentary by now!
