Megan once again proving why she’s one of the most impressive female rappers in the mainstream right now and with a deserved BOTW. Good to see her with another Top 40 debut! 😊

‘Cruel Summer’ officially surpasses ‘Anti-Hero’ to become Taylor’s longest-running hit on the chart (54 weeks). Even if I like the latter slightly more, both are absolutely fantastic songs. Congratulations to her! 👏

I actually didn’t mind ‘I Had Some Help’ but I really hope we don’t get another summer of Morgan Wallen spending months at #1…

That Tommy Richman song slaps so i hope it sticks around but doesn’t go 1 because I want post and Morgan to stay there

Really excited for the Billie album bomb next week. She definitely took a risk bringing in more diverse and psychedelic sounds, but it absolutely paid off and it may have given us some of her best work to date! ❤

I really hope stargazing can become a hit

It is insane that the only genres that ever chart and last in the top 40 in the US are trap rap, country, folk pop and watered down fake 80s music(although if its too energetic like Standing Next To You, it flops for no reason). No other country does this and its honestly depressing.

The chorus to Stargazing has been ALL OVER my TikTok feed for months at this point, long before the song officially came out. It's interesting cause I've stumbled across Myles Smith on that platform before and most of his stuff seems to be downbeat/sad/acoustic, but this is the one that happened to take off as a TikTok sound so it ended up getting a MASSIVE promotional push. It's a decent song in a vacuum, but it's so tiresome when you've already had a hook drilled into your brain way before the song is even released...

I Had Some Help is catchy and very good and I hope it sticks around

Oh hey, it's that boy band that got me glued to k-pop for the past six months! That's not a complaint; I'm just really happy to see my new favorite group on the charts again. (Yes, that what Stray Kids are to me now.) As for 'Lose My Breath', the song's fine for what it is. Although, there is a version of the song without Puth's vocals, with the bridge being replaced with rapping. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I prefer the Puth version. I feel like this song didn't need a rap bridge; it just takes me out of the expierence. Plus, the Puth version has Felix singing in his higher register on that bridge. He's one of the rappers, mainly known for his exceptionally deep voice (and trust me, describing it that way is an understatement). I bring this up because I think this is the first single where he gets to use that higher voice. He usually only does that in album tracks - 'Youtiful', 'Cover Me', and the best example, 'Deep end', his solo mixtape track. You'd be amazed at how versatile his vocals are.

After a few years of adversity, Megan is back to delivering banger after banger!

I absolutely disagree with Mark with I Had Some Help. This song rocks!! Posty and Morgan definitely have great chemistry, and the faster tempo makes it danceable. Given how big the chorus is, I can really see the crowd going wild to it when it's played live. Yes it could go harder since it's a short song and use a guitar solo (look up the metal covers of it on RU-vid,) but overall, I think it's great. Mark is just being a little too critical here.

Great to see a bar song(tipsy) reach a new peak, honestly at first I didn’t really like that song but now it’s grown on me a lot

I thought it was funny that you mentioned the bad lyrics on “neck on a yacht” but you didn’t mention “I got rich without doing the Nae Nae”. An incredible brag for someone who got rich by starting his own social media trend.

Stargazing seems by-the-numbers, which is fine, but if we're really about to see folktronica become popular again, Ellie Goulding would be charting again, which would be great to see!

I won't really give out a worst myself, because while the obvious answer to me IS Gunna, I also don't think it's remotely fair to really judge songs I have not, and will not listen to all the way (Gunna's music isn't even GOOD sleeping pills), but best is gonna be Boa for me, with HM being I Had Some Help. Far from the best either have done (I don't see Morgan topping Man Made A Bar any time soon), but I'm a sucker for an uptempo country jam, even tho it's an overcompressed mess.

Charlie Puth has actually been one of the most successful western artists in South Korea in recent years. "That's Hilarious," "I Don't Think That I Like Her," and "Dangerously" have all been hanging around pretty high on the Circle Chart for years! I can't say more collabs with K-pop artists are surprising for him.

The way I Had Some Help is structured, it very much feels like a duet where Post Malone and Morgan Wallen are the couple who are arguing. This is not a complaint, to be clear.

BOTW: I Had Some Help - Even if it is bro-country, it's a fun one at that. I'm sorry, this is catchy as all hell. HM (Tie): Boa and Stargazing - For Boa, Megan proves once again why she's one of the best current rappers, and for Stargazing, this gave me vibes of Ed Sheeran mixed with either Coldplay or Bastille, and I couldn't be happier for this, let's make this a hit. DM: hakuna matata - The only thing notable about this song is that it stole a phrase from a Disney movie. WOTW: neck on a yacht - I'm not even mad, I'm just bored to frickin' tears. I'm actually excited for the Billie Eilish album bomb, at least most of the songs next week will be of quality.

Unfortunately despite my efforts to make Illusion a hit I don't think it is going to chart next week. Billie Eilish is probably going to kick it out alongside a bunch of lower charting songs that are dropping on the chart right now. Dua Lipa lastest album flopped really badly in the US. Houdini is most likely locked in the bottom 20 of the year end list but that is it. Radical Optimism will likely only perform well enough to be somewhere in the bottom 100 or lower top 100 of the Billboard 200 year end list.

This week definitely feels reasonably tame with the new arrivals, and where I might like 'I Had Some Help' as a good guilty pleasure even though I do recognize some of the flaws. Next week, we will see the "Hit Me Hard And Soft" album bomb but it might have a medium-sized impact since there are 10 tracks and it will likely hit the upper half of the Hot 100 the most. We will also see Luke Comb's new song for the Twisters soundtrack (which is a sequel to the film 'Twister' from 1996), impact as well considering it is actually getting pushed as his newest single. Music-Related Movie Trailer Thoughts: Wicked Getting this out of the way, I've never seen the original stage musical. I have thought about getting into stage musicals, but I never got around to continuing to try to after the four that I have seen (Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, the SpongeBob one, the Beetlejuice one). Maybe I'll see it if this movie gets good reviews. Who knows. I do remember it being one of the first stage musicals I've heard of when someone in elementary school talked about it. Even as a kid, I thought the plot was kinda lame. The original Wizard of Oz though, that I have seen along with 99% of the world, and it's a classic. Back to this, I remember when they first announced they were splitting this story into two parts, someone more familiar with the original version than me responded with "is this story even long enough to be split into two part movies?" That's not a good sign. I also remember hearing that one of the reasons they splitted the story into two films was because nothing can top Defying Gravity. Thanks for getting me interested in the sequel. They basically said, "we're gonna peak in the first one. Nothing in the second one will top the best scene in the original." How's the trailer itself? Looks like a movie I guess. Jeff Goldblum seems cool though. I have a question. Why is Defying Gravity one of the trailer songs? The point of splitting this story into two parts was that so the first movie will end with that song. You're playing audio from the climax. Who made this movie? (Shows Universal). Of course. Speaking of which, looks like this movie turned an anthropomorphic goat from the stage musical into a regular goat. Looks like they knew what happened last time they tried to recreate anthropomorphic animals from a stage musical into movie form. Just to be clear, I don't exclusively like depressing dramas, and I don't deduct points on a movie just for releasing at people's local theater when they first come out. I just haven't been that impressed with the fun movie trailers I've been getting. Now if you excuse, a music-related movie who's trailer I was pretty towards just came out recently, so I'm looking forward to the day I watch i-(Shows that Back to Black has a 2.6/5 average rating on Letterboxd.) Oh wait, it didn't pass the limit. Never mind.

I was originally gonna wait to talk about this until next week because like I implied last week, I don't talk about Billboard songs/albums until they officially start charting unless it's discourse shit because might as well wait until its most approriate. But I have to talk about this right now. I seem to notice that lately, I've been getting new releases from artists I'm into. They even follow a pattern. Yes, I know I already talked about almost all of the following already. Week 1: New Freshy Kanal, a non-Billboard artist, battle. When I talked about that match because everyone else was too, I should've pointed out that the idea of Cupid saying "my shots make families. Yours leave them broken," to the leprechaun kinda unironically hits hard. Week 2: New Dua Lipa, a Billboard artist, album. Week 3: New Royal Republic, a non-Billboard artist, song. Week 4: New Billie Eilish, a Billboard artist, album. That was a nice thing to start listening to after coming home after seeing Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Man, I listened to two albums in one week? My thoughts on albums really have went from "I never listen to them" to "depends on the artist." And it'll never go further than that. And the pattern is apparently gonna continue considering I saw a topic video for another new Freshy Kanal battle in my recommended, though I'll probably skip it. If no Billboard artists I'm into releases anything next week, than let me be struck by a flying ice cream truck.

I'm honestly just glad that Eurovision doesn't seem to have made a splash on the Billboard charts, given the insane shitshow wherein the EBU, which organizes Eurovision, epically confirmed what people like myself have been saying for years about how the Eurovision Song Contest is essentially just political theater with bullshit rules banning political content that only ever seems to be enforced against art that challenges the Western European political establishment. A queer participant literally went _fuck the EBU_ the evening of the finale after enduring a week of harassment from the Israeli delegation and absurd censorship ... I feel so bad for them. I really hope that the EBU goes down in flames over this!
