When 4 pop princess Britney, Xtina, Jessica n Mandy plus 2 massive boybands NSync, BSB ruled the chart. When Pink was forced to be a ghetto RnB girl, something she didnt like. Also, Westlife tried to break the US market. Sadly, only their debut single Swear It Again charted. They were huge in Europ and Asia though. Very surprised the no. 1 hit here was Incomplete by Sisqo. Definitely one if the most forgotten no. 1s ever. His previous hit Thong Song was billion times bigger and more popular/remembered.

Different charting system back then. Mostly reliant on Radio and Physical Sales. If a single gets pulled out on radio circulation and doesnt have enough sales then it can fall off or drop entirely out on the charts. Same reason why it is very rare for singles before to have a chart week past 30 weeks unlike today thanks to streaming power.

While I know country's popularity was at a peak in the mid to late 90's, I am slightly surprised there were so many country songs on the Hot 100. Then again, rock was sort of in the doldrums in 2000 with not much outside of Top 40 acceptable soft rock or stuff like Limp Bizkit.

Good lord, was music awful already! Save for a few songs here and there, all this "music" couldn't hold a candle to the 60s, 70s, and 80s. 2000 and ahead has been the big musical decline. Awful, forgettable, disposable music.

@@discomillenium8850 Incorrect. There is a clear dividing line between pre- and post-9/11 pop music, in the early days of the new millennium. From 1997 to early 2001 there is an optimism and innocence in pop that disappears after 9/11 and it is replaced by hard-nosed cynicism and aggression.
