I've probably put 300 tips in many years all by hand and epoxy was a glue that never failed. One thing that I would suggest . Be close to an emergency room if using a razor blade on a lathe the way that guy did.
Joseph Heikes As a longtime woodturner who has been to the ER for doing dumb shit, I totally agree with you. Even I would not use a favor blade for that job. That is nuts!
1st- Thank you for the great video 👍 2nd- This is video is unfortunately loaded with personal opinions (Good Vs Bad) ... Personally over the years I learned that people can develop techniques that look very unsafe but actually they're not as much you think.. so trying to film that type of videos will always bring many common sense, Unsafe, etc... Comments. I think his techniques are great and since I have been around industrial machines and many many many safety training courses, I wouldn't have any issues trying Joe's way. However, to anyone else that is not familiar with all above, please please don't try this at home. Using any shop tools could cause some type of injury... Paying attention to detail and plan your work ahead could reduce the chance, that is reality.
Lmao!!! At 03:40 I cringed hard and had to see if anyone else saw it. That is terrifying to watch. Torque + sharp (sharpest you can get) blade + soft material === visit to the ER.
I'm so glad Jammillette is there ! Her contribution to this video is obviously invaluable ! And Florian that chain you've got around your neck in the next scene without a doubt helps us have faith in your integrity and credibility ! This guy he has changing the tip is using a concrete block instead of a piece of wood to rest the new tip on so he can cut the excess off. Why would he do that ? I guess he just really likes buying and changing utility knife blades. After 4 swipes with his sandpaper when he's installing the tip without a lathe the tip is magically on and shaped correctly. Man this guy is good. When he puts the tip on "professionally" he's using a utility knife blade to take the excess off the tip and that blade is held by nothing but his fingers as the lathe turns incredibly fast. You've got to be kidding me. I won't even begin to mention all the serious injuries that could could happen here. Florian, you should delete this video immediately before someone loses an eye or worse. Incredibly irresponsible. And finally, Florian, in future videos lose Jammillette and lose that ridiculous necklace.
But what would we ever do without the "model and Billard enthusiast (great credentials btw)" and her big chained pimp? Honestly, "pool dawg" should've given it away, already...
I agree with everything said about the pool cue tech, he is terrible and embarrassing to pros and amateurs' alike! his lathe had a cross slide with a tool post why not use it? Especially to square up the ferule.
I worked at a billiards hall when i was 13yrs old till I was 17. I replaced tips and ferrules on cues. The way I did it was I put a couple of elastics around the shaft looped it through then stretched the elastic to make it hold down the tip. And instead of using an blade to trim the access I just sanded it down. That’s how I was taught
I like to use broken glass and I like to hold it with my teeth while cleaning off the glue. I use a 225 hp Mercury engine on my lathe to get maximum rpms. I sometimes use battery acid to melt the ferrule so the tip adheres better. But I do night like to use my equipment unless I’m drunk.
I'm not really liking the tiny razor blade by hand next to say 500 rpm lathe, seems like that thing sticking all sudden or who knows what, could do some damage.
@@jasomkovac9115 Those are not safe for the job hes doing, plus he had no gloves on the machine. Also those are not safety glasses, particles can get in through the side. You can refer to OSHA Subpart I 1910.133,,,,,B1tc4
@@ravishekhar6828 ,not a big fan of gloves while working with any revolving machines. I know any glasses are better than none, but you're right about the side protection.
Florian no se si me comprendas en español, pero yo lo que hago es comprar la zapata o punta más pequeña así no la tengo que lijar no se si esto estará bien?
This looks like a pain in the ass for a newbie. If you have a shaft you want to change the tip on, can you just take it somewhere for a pro to replace?
Maybe Joe loves to live life on the edge, a knife edge 😂 he obviously has done this many times before but could definitely make it a little safer oike put the stanley blade say in a holder so if it does catch and fling it he at least has a bit of leverage on the blade, ive done some risky jobs on my lathe but no way am i going near a fast spinny thing with a stanley blade with my bare hands and face right in the line of fire, to be honest i expected a lathe type setup with tool post for more accuracy but really there is not much difference in doing by hand and if i just had Joes setup id just use the sanding block or a file probably take like 30 seconds longer if that compared to using the blade and much safer, each to there own i suppose!
I honestly cannot believe what I just saw. Holding a razor blade by the fingertips while a lathe is spinning at hundreds of revolutions per second is just asking for trouble. My goodness. People!!!!! Do not do it this way.
Yeah, the better you get at something, the more comfortable you are in dangerous situations. Accidents happen to people who get comfortable like that. He's rolling the dice every time, and every dice roll, his chances of fucking up increase. It doesn't matter how much of a hotshot you are on a lathe, things can happen that are out of your own control, so you might as well maximize your safety for when that happens.
Why u dont show us how to do kickshots and how to calculate the trak lines to make the kick shot exactly to any pocket ...i know u all keep this secret but how u can make this game increase all over the world if u dont help us
I don’t want to call you extremely stupid, but I am going too. You’re extremely stupid... That’s like saying, I guess “professional” means putting your car on a “raising” thing.
@@kinocorner976 I don't want to call you stupid but if you're paying a professional to put your car on a raising thing just to change a headlamp then......
Blows my mind that people will $30 for a $20 kamui fitted by a professional. In the UK I can get an elk fitted on my snooker cue to the same standard for £3 all in
After you make a video, play it back with the closed caption feature on. If the closed captioning comes out like secret Russian code like this one does, the guy doing the talking has a golf ball in his mouth.
Would not recommend this method. Cutting down a bare ferrule is about guaranteed to gouge that ferrule. Tape that ferrule, if you're going to use this method. If just sandpaper, also tape the ferrule. But, don't do this.
Where does this guy work. I want my tips replaced. I'm serious. I bought this pool table for my basement. It's OK. It's great for kids and friends. But the sticks they gave us are ok except for the tips. When you hit the cue ball the stick just slides off the end of the tip. It's very frustrating. But I just ordered a new stick off of Amazon for 50 bucks. It's a 52 inch for kids and mabe us adults. Why are those tips junk allready. The table is new. I live in south jersey. Help me out somebody.
This is one of the most unsafe things I’ve ever seen. Using a bare razor blade one a spinning lathe? I can’t believe you would do this, much less encourage others to partake in the unsafe act! How can you call this “professional”? It may be the way they did it back in the day, but this is a recordable incident waiting to happen.
Why do you assume professional is synonymous with safe? "Oh my god that roofer could fall off of the roof by climbing on it, how can they be professional?" I use a razor on a spinning lathe for a living. It's a "feel" thing that comes with practice. If it makes you feel better you can use it in a utility knife, but you lose alot of the fine-tuning control.
Viknu any real company prioritizes the safety of it’s employees over all else. Using a razor blade on a lathe with no PPE is unprofessional for a company, not to mention irresponsible to be teaching others how to act in an unsafe manner.
You live a very sheltered life if this is one of the most unsafe things you ever seen, I've never done this before but I could do that all day just like he did with absolutely no fear of injury.
Actually using a lathe with a razor blade is the safest way you could do it I have been doing it for 7 years and my grandfather has been doing it for 49 years just hold it the correct way hold the blade with a lot of strength and it will work like butter.
Yah... I saw alot things i wouldn't do.... Especially with shaping using the lathe. Excess is not a problem but the shspe is to me and grinding high speed is risk...... .. I prefer to my tips to last and too much can turn to dust too quickly.. Idk... I shaped my 1st tip using a concrete sidewalk to begin and finished with a worn out piece of sand paper and brunished (harded the side with moisture my fingees witth tiny bid of saliva to wet the side of tip edge and the rapidly using the Bar pool table top while rotating the shaft...something id done since i tok off a tip with burnishing using 5in1tip shape tool.... When i gave my friend back his stick he asked my where i got the new tip from.. And i told him it was the one that was on it... Brand new cue stick came with new unshaped tip.... Never seen thst before or since.... But needless to say.... It turns out i have a natural instinct for shaping
I think he used loctite glue (for leather). and not all super glues are good for tips. get a super glue that is for porus / bonds to leather better than ex: superglue for plastics
Konrad Ford/LeCharles07, agreed dudes, tips soak the liquid like a sponge, not only does it make it hard as a brick I find after a few shots it just pops right off. Super glue gel has kept my current tip in place for over a year now
@@bmac7885 Yup, I learned that one from Barry Stark snooker coach. It's easy to get from even the cheap family dollar stores. It just handles the stock of pool cue strikes better.
If you don’t like to answer this frequently asked question, then don’t! Don’t pose as someone who mercifully telling us how to do, by the way completely wrong 🙈🙏
Screw on tips blow, a rookie like me was able to change it with a proper Elkmaster in about 1 hour. Just don't follow this man's advice. Look up Barry's Snooker Tutorials. He shows how to change a snooker tip but the process is the same for a pool cue. Much more detailed and safer.
"beware of the sharp tools" what are you making a video for 7 year olds? of course if i see a knife i will be acting smart, the only danger is i'm stupid enough to break my tip.
