Billie's Perspective: She complains that she doesn't want to go to school by pretending she has a bellyache, (K-12 spoilers!) They make her take a pill to always be happy, and she doesn't fit in with the others. Her mom makes her go to school anyway, and since the kids who are already on the bus notice her house coming up, they complain about her not wearing pink like "all girls do." so the bus driver skips past her house. Billie notices the bus and thought she was late, so she ran into the street walking to school. Melanie's Perspective: She was picked up before Billie was, with the time she was on the bus, she is describing everything that is happening on the bus in her head, she notices Billie's house and is excited for her to board the schoolbus, she starts to snap into reality and hears the boys on the back of the bus complaining about her style and how weird she is, so they skip her house. In frustration, she looks back at Billie as she watches the bus drive past her.
