“PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way. GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what? GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise. PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad. GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.”
“Bilbo knelt on one knee filled with sorrow. ‘Farewell, King under the Mountain.’ he said. ‘This is a bitter adventure, if it must end so; and not a mountain of gold can amend it. Yet I am glad that I have shared in your perils-that has been more than any Baggins deserves.’ ‘No!’ said Thorin. ‘There is more in you of good than you know, child of the kindly West. Some courage and some wisdom, blended in measure. If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. But sad or merry, I must leave it now. Farewell.’” (The Hobbit, 272-273).
It is honestly too bad they did not use more of Tolkein's dialogue in the film. You can tell at first listen what the script writers cobbled together and the art that Tolkein put on paper. The difference in writing quality is striking.
Let us all say our last goodbye to Sir Christopher Lee a.k.a Saruman the greatest evil wizard in history of Middle Earth. You will live forever in our hearts Christopher. WWII hero, singer, actor speaking 9 languages including Chinese. Rest in peace in the immortal lands of Valinor dear Istari friend. You will forever live in our hearts...
This song really is the last goodbye. It's like everyone who ever worked on the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films or was involved, Peter, the actors, everyone. It's like they and all the movies themselves are saying goodbye. Saying goodbye for the last time. It's amazing, what movies and books can do for people. It can give them something to believe in, something to thrive on and something to enjoy. Peter Jackson and everyone who worked on the films have given the world something that can never be replaced. This song is the last goodbye, the final message that they will leave us with. The end of the journey that we started on all those years ago. They bid us all a VERY fond farewell. And we thank them will all our hearts. For everything.
I still remember the projection of The Battle Of The Five Arms, it was 2014. I was in cinema with my daughter, she was 16 and we shared the passion for LOTR movies (and soundtrack) since the first one. We were sitting there, in the dark, watching the closing titles of the movie, knowing it's really the end and knowing that there will not be anything following. My daughter grew up with Jackson's trilogy and it has changed her in many different ways, making her better person for sure... I have tears in my eyes everytime I hear this song...after The Lord Of The Ring and The Hobbit nothing from cinema industry moves me anymore...
@@adas.7011 for real, these films are so grand, impacting on ones life. Sometimes even relatable. I’ve been changed by these movies. Inspired actually, I know you said nothing else moves you anymore compared to these films, I hope there may be something else that will. For 10 years (not joking) me and my team inspired by all the greatest stories have been making and planning a fantasy SAGA. The very first feature length film has been completed and is coming out this Christmas to RU-vid. You can see the trailer if you want on my channel. For it I have created a new visual genre so it’s a new experience for everyone. Full of emotion, loss, hope and just tremendously motivational, a great passion project of 10 years. I hope that you are impacted by it :) The Kings World: Duel of Shades is its name.
I got so emotional watching this at the end of Botfa in the theatres. I grew up with lotr; I watched the first one when I was 6 or 7 and when it ended, I immediately asked where the "next" one was. I asked my mom to do my hair like Legolas for picture day in grade 2 (and she did!). It was really amazing to be in that theatre seeing the credits, knowing it was really goodbye from this cast and crew. I know there will be remakes in the future, but I don't know if any version can match the sheer magic this one held and it will always hold a place in my heart
These are the lyrics as far as i could tell, wasn't sure about some parts though. Thumbs up so everyone can see. ^^ I saw the light fade from the sky. On the wind I a sigh. As the snowflakes cover my fallen brothers, I will say this last goodbye. Night is now falling so ends this day. The road is now calling and i must away. Over hill and under tree, through lands where never light has shone. By silver streams that run down to the sea. Under cloud, beneath the stars, over snow and winter's mourn. I turn at last to paths that lead home. And though where the road then takes me, i cannot tell. We came all this way but now comes a day to bid you farewell. Many places i have been, many sorrows i have seen. But i don't regret nor will i forget, all who took that road with me. Night is now falling, so ends this day, The road is now calling and i must away. Over hill and under tree, through lands where never light has shone. By silver streams that run down to the sea. To these memories i will hold, with your blessing i will go. To turn at last to paths that lead home. And though where the road then takes me, i cannot tell. We came all this way, but now comes a day, to bid you farewell. I bid you all a very fond farewell.
Thorin Oakenshield You're right, Thorin...I am very happy I had a chance to join you and your family for one last adventure into Middle Earth, thank you very much.
I will forever Love The Hobbit Trilogy...This song says it perfectly.. I don't understand why some think it sucked. I read the Book, and watched all 3 movies as they came on to DVD. I think Everyone did a superb job at bringing it to life. Especially Richard Armitage(Thorin Oakenshield)👑💗💖 And Martin Freeman( Younger Bilbo) 💗😊
+lewis silk Um, Tolkien may have changed your life but he didn't write this song... it's true that it's talking about how Thorin, Fili and Kili died. Okay, you've got a point. If I think of the first time I read the hobbit I might have gotten a bit teary eyed at the end. And when I think of that when I listen to this, it makes me tear up a little. Also, isn't it cool that Billy Boyd sang this?
I sobbed watching it, then I died reading it. It just broke me when I imagined this hobbit kneeling besides a dwarf that had in the beginning had no faith in him. He finally proved himself to Thorin, that’s all he wanted, approval from this thick headed dwarf. He got it eventually through several acts of bravery, while still being flawed. Then he watched as the dwarf he had tried so hard to please fell into sickness, dragging his kin with him. Bilbo watched his family gradually become obsessed with treasure, break apart, become toxic and then practically stop caring for him; putting the gold in front of his health. When all was finished he had lost his leader, friend, companion, his brother. He had to travel home alone this time knowing that if he sees the company again, there will be holes. He travels alone knowing the dwarves now have a home and he does not anymore. His home was with Thorin and his company, not Baggend.
@@RigoObezo I'd like to see Morgoth's time and Sauron when he was a servent to the first dark lord, maybe end it when he came to the elves as gift giver and started his plot in making the rings of power. There are many interesting monsters and creatures like Huan and Kakaroth, as well as the first dragon Glaurung
Oh. Then you're a little bitch Frodo. You don't do anything on your own. You need literally everyone's help to not murder your best friend or walk the ring to the enemy. Then you bitch out at the end cuz you're afraid to destroy it.
Very happy that one of LOTR's own sung this beautiful song, it's more than fitting. As for the LOTR Universe, damn man, unbelievable. Words cannot describe how amazing this franchise is, both The Hobbit and LOTR really are quite outstanding. It's hard to believe that the journey is coming to an end.. until someone decides to create a remake in the next 100 years or so. Thank you Tolkien for creating this incredible fantasy, and to Jackson for bringing it to life, it could not have been done better. It really has found a special place in my heart.
Billy Boyd has such a beautiful voice. I remember first hearing Pippin singing in LOTR as the soldiers marched to their deaths, that song seemed like a haunting lullaby. This one seems like a heartfelt goodbye
When the movie ended, everyone started clapping and for the first time I was not the only one crying.Everyone had burst into tears. What a wonderful movie,I will miss middle-earth so much...
When I was eight, a wardrobe didn't lead me to Narnia When I was eleven, a letter didn't come from Hogwarts When I was twelve, a satyr didn't lead me to Camp Half blood When I was fifteen, a ranger didn't train me to be a hero When I was sixteen, my name didn't get put into the reaping Gandalf, when I'm fifty, I'm counting on you to take me on an adventure Not mine,(saw it somewhere) don't remember where tho. it's so cool so I wanted to share it with you guys :D
Personally, I felt like the Tauriel-Kili romance was pushing it waaay too far. I mean, I can deal with how Smaug was shot down, although it was (in my opinion) over-dramatized, but adding a new character for a relationship that never existed in the books? I felt that the power in the LotR trilogy came from Jackson's dedication to Tolkien's writing, and the Hobbit lost impact for the lack of such attention to detail. It was still a fun movie, but not what I hoped for out of The Hobbit. TL;DR - disagreed with the romantic subplot and over-dramatizing of many other things, but still thought the movie was ok!
Tom Sproson No, I told my son the exact same thing. I would also like a viking funeral. Will settle for a green one instead since being set on fire dead in a wee boat is against the law. Too bad that the days come that we have to plan such things. Oh well, it was fun and I hate leaving it.. Love every breath and I am not dead yet.
Makes me think of when I was 7 and saw the Return of the King in theatres the first time. I started crying at the end and my brother was there comforting me telling me it was okay. He died two months ago, I wish he could be here to see this with me since we saw the first two Hobbit movies together.
I know what it's like to lose someone. I'm about to go to their funeral right now and listened to this song because it's so perfect for how I'm feeling right now :'( I hope you enjoy the last film despite everything and know that "those we love never truly leave us" (in the words of Sirius Black) stay strong :)
"How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand... there is no going back? There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep, that have taken hold"
Really Kaine? Are they actually real? I thought it was green screen or cgi or some other special effect. I may be wrong but Im writing this comment just through curiosity and am not trying to wrong your comment- it would be nice for a reply. Thanks
ghgdh ghdhd if you watch the behind the scenes for the Hobbit movies, you'll see that all of the Middle Earth movies were shot entirely on location in New Zealand. Yes there still a fair amount of CGI, but as far as the landscape and the wide panning shots and whatnot are very real. In one of the behind the scenes, the actor that played Dwalin, I think, took a picture of where they were shooting and sent it to some of his friends and they wouldn't believe him. Admittedly, I've never been to New Zealand, so I can't verify what they're saying, but I do know that there is some beautiful country down there.
Who else cries every time when he hears that song? Who else is so sad that the journey is over? Who else wishes that there will be another middle earth movie? Guys its now 2018. Its been four years now since the journey ended. I still remember how i sat in cinema and cried. It feels like it was yesterday. I miss middle earth. I will never forget It :(
Bro I rewatched all the hobbit movies, after binging them I cried because I just now realized how good the movie is. The ending is so wholesome and bittersweet. And this song makes me so sad, I love it.
I saw the light fade from the sky On the wind I heard a sigh As the snowflakes cover my fallen brothers I will say this last goodbye Night is now falling So ends this day The road is now calling and I must away Over hill and under tree Through lands where never light has shone By silver streams that run down to the Sea Under cloud, beneath the stars Over snow and winter's morn I turn at last to paths that lead home And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell We came all this way But now comes the day To bid you farewell Many places I have been Many sorrows I have seen But I don't regret Nor will I forget All who took that road with me Night is now falling So ends this day The road is now calling And I must away Over hill and under tree Through lands where never light has shone By silver streams that run down to the Sea To these memories I will hold With your blessing I will go To turn at last to paths that lead home And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell We came all this way But now comes the day To bid you farewell I bid you all a very fond farewell
It was a big honour for me to watch the hobbit movies in the cinema since I was too young to actually see lotr. This may be the last goodbye for the movies, but not for me. The characters and the story will forever and always stay in my heart and be a big part in my life.
Here I am after 7 years. This is truly legendary and always will be. I love both Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit(even if The Hobbit isn't as good as the main trilogy: Lord of the Rings). I just randomly decided to put some lyrics here. I saw the light fade from the sky On the wind I heard a sigh As the snowflakes cover my fallen brothers I will say this last goodbye Night is now falling So ends this day The road is now calling and I must away Over hill and under tree Through lands where never light has shone By silver streams that run down to the Sea Under cloud, beneath the stars Over snow and winter's morn I turn at last to paths that lead home And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell We came all this way But now comes the day To bid you farewell Many places I have been Many sorrows I have seen But I don't regret Nor will I forget All who took that road with me Night is now falling So ends this day The road is now calling And I must away Over hill and under tree Through lands where never light has shone By silver streams that run down to the Sea To these memories I will hold With your blessing I will go To turn at last to paths that lead home And though where the road then takes me I cannot tell We came all this way But now comes the day To bid you farewell I bid you all a very fond farewell.
The melody of this song is reminiscent of the concluding song in "The Return of the King," "Into The West." Both are moving and beautiful, the simplest melodies often are the best ones
So i know i'm not alone... But at the end, i think i speak for all of us when i say that i cry'd like a little fuck boy at the end of the Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies
His voice is beautiful.. It brought tears to my eyes, and it brought back so many memories.. I know this was made years ago but this series has a special place in my heart. This is PIPPIN singing.
This movie is going to hurt. The 13 year journey has been amazing, but as all adventures do, it must end as well. I won't be walking out of a cinema I will be walking out of a lake. I watch this song whenever I'm on the internet. Thank you Billy this song sums up the Middle Earth adventure so well. Why does it have to end. I will treasure these movies forever. I guess this is The Last Goodbye so Goodbye Peter Jackson Goodbye, Middle Earth :(
My friends are moving away to another state very far from me and I know this song is sorrowful but at the same time it made me happy 🙂 thanks Billy Boyd for singing this it’s one of my forever songs 💙
Guys 3:58 can u recognize this person?? This is Peter Jackson :D This is Epic! I didn't see this on film, but i checked this and that's first scene in Desolition of Smaug :D Anyway, thx for 6 wonderful films Mr. Peter Jackson!!
Here in 2018!! I cried so hard when Fili, Kili, and Thorin died. Even after all this time, when the Battle of the Five Armies comes on, I still cry. Middle Earth will forever hold a special place in my heart and is something that I will never forget.
Goodbye Tolkien. Thank you for everything. You are my favorite person ever. I will never forget you my friend. Rest In peace my friend. You are perfect.
Just finished The Hobbit again with a young friend, just like LOTR’s he was in tears and immensely moved. The Hobbit is just such a fun filled journey. This song and Into the West are just magnificent ending songs.
Fran Žmirić thats dam right lol. Hobbit and lotr r my favs, what’s your favorite movie out of them? Btw they’ve inspired me to make a fantasy film, it’s coming this christmas. The Kings World:Duel of Shades trailer is out if ur interested. Would love to know what u think of it :)
First Harry Potter and Now Lord Of The Rings! I knew my childhood was over when I heard Woody say "So long partner," But crap. The series that defined my childhood are coming to an end! Graduating college soon. Being an adult sucks!
8 years later and man.....this was one HELLUVAH adventure. So many great legends that are no longer with us 🥺. Nothing will be like this again...nothing
One of my best friends used to watch the LOTR movies with her father, and has been going to see them on premier night ever since. A short time ago, she lost her father but around that same time, our paths crossed and we were brought together to build a very tight bond. I know that I am not, nor ever will be a replacement for her Dad, but I will gladly hold her hand to walk with her down whatever path that fate will reveal. We are going to see this movie on opening night, but it's much more than a trip to the cinema for us, it's a rite of passage, time spent with those whom we love, sharing emotions and feelings that cannot be put into words. #OneLastTime
This song brings the nostalgia of when quarantine just started. One week left of school, sitting on my couch downstairs and a warm spring breeze blowing in the window as I sat back, turned in my last assignment, and listened to this song on repeat while waiting for friends to come knocking and more songs to come through the Chorus google classroom. Best feeling ever.
I truly enjoyed the Hobbit!!!! I cried a river in the cinemas. I can say I enjoyed it more than LOTR. The adventure of dwarves to reclaim their homeland and the bond they have got into me. And when the three Durin sons died, I mean seeing the company kneel and grieve at thorin's body!:((((( Dwalin and Bilbo seeing Fili killed :((((( Just... I FREAKINNN LOVE THE COMPANY OF THORIN OAKENSHIELD!!!! :((((
I know how you feel. I watched TBOTFA today and when Thorin died I can't stop crying and I think the people behind me must think im mad because I whispered: No Thorin you can't die now. No!" ever and ever again. Im actually crying and thinking about the three. Oh Peter what have you done to me?! :'( :'( :'(
I know what you mean. first Tauriël holding Kili made it hard for me to hold myself from letting tears, but then seeing the company kneel down and grieve over Thorin's body made me feel like the tears would flow out any moment. It was like i could feel their sorrow and sadness as if i was there myself kneeling by his body. I actually saw the movie again 24 hours after i had seen it with my friends (my brother was going to watch it with a friend of his, and i got the opportunity to go with them and watch a second time :)) and the feeling was just as strong as the first time. Chills everytime. I'm so thankful for LOTR and The Hobbit to exist, They make life a happier place.
U said it perfect! The dwarves made it seem like real life for me. I liked LOTR but I cried for thorin at that scene. He just wanted to be king cuz he deserved it the most.
just back from the theatre, i have to say this is a beautiful ending. it reminds me when i first saw the LOTR series, on the ending of the return of the king, i just pause the movie and turn off the tv, because i knew thats the only way i can let my mind stay in the middle earth forever.
every now and then a song perfectly captures all the emotions of a story. This is one of them. Billy Boyd is amazing. I have added this song to the list of songs to be played at my wake.
It's so sad that the Middle Earth trilogy is over :( I am a die hard Tolkien fan and cried as soon as Billy started singing. I'm going to reread The Hobbit and LOTR as well as re watch them
When I die I want this song for my funeral so that I can remind those people who are in my Funeral that death is not the end bacuse death is a journey and another chapter of life.
Ah the memories this song evokes. I remember crying in the theatre as the credits rolled. God all these years later and I still cry every time I hear it.
What really made me cry in the cinemas was the fact that Billy played Pippin and Pippin was my second favourite character after Aragorn :'( BILLY :'( *Cries even more* Raise your hand if you would die for The LOTR trio to go back in cinemas? *Raises hand*
