Love that Billy Bragg! Artists like him don't come around often...Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Levon Helm, Shane McGowan to name a few...invite you into their world - very generous and kind of them. God bless them all!
what a great sound this is song has when played live, with a dobro..... the mermaid avenue collection is truly a masterpiece. so thankful bragg and wilco brought woody’s unpublished songs to life.... thanks for posting this.
I lived in a place called Okfuskee And I had a little girl in a holler treeI said, little girl, it's plain to see Ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me She said it's hard for me to see How one little boy got so ugly Yes my little girly that might be But there ain't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me Way over yonder in the minor key Way over yonder in the minor key There ain't nobody that can sing like me We walked down by the Buckeye CreekTo see the frog eat the goggle-eye beeTo hear the west wind whistle to the eastThere ain't nobody that can sing like meAin't nobody that can sing like me Oh my little girly will you let me seeWay over yonder where the wind blows freeNobody can see in our holler tree And there ain't nobody that can sing like meAin't nobody that can sing like me Way over yonder in the minor keyWay over yonder in the minor keyAin't nobody that can sing like me Her mama cut a switch from a cherry treeAnd laid it on the she and meIt stung lots worse than a hive of beesBut there ain't nobody that can sing like meAin't nobody that can sing like me Now I have walked a long long waysAnd I still look back to my Tanglewood daysI've led lots of girls since then to straySaying ain't nobody that can sing like meAin't nobody that can sing like me Way over yonder in the minor keyWay over yonder in the minor keyAin't nobody that can sing like me Ain't nobody that can sing like me
One of the many great snippets of wisdom from Billy......"....alliteration trumps grammar, every time...."....has some bearing on this song but, even more on that great 'Stones classic - "I can get Satisfaction" :-)
Okfuskee and Buckeye Creek are actual places. I've even duck hunted at Buckeye Creek. Okfuskee refers to the county where Woody Guthrie was born and lived as a child.

Anyone noticed Ed Sheeran has lifted the tune for "Galway Girl?" yet? "She played the fiddle in an Irish band, but she fell in love with anEnglishman" Really Eddie ?
Brian Fallon also ripped off this tune for his band The Gaslight Anthem's song "Red at Night"... Still sounds awesome though, like I thought it was tastefully done.
@@michaeljohnston3741 You should have stated "Make your mind up"., not "Make you're mind up". When you criticize others, make sure that you are correct.
