He founded his own band, Spectrum, and the self-titled debut album featured a mix of jazz, funk, and rock and was hailed as one of the best jazz albums.

Billy Cobham, bubnjarska legenda koju je časopis Modern Drummer proglasio jednim od 25 najutjecajnijih bubnjara, održao je koncert na Peristilu u sklopu Vibrez festivala, koji organizira Hrvatski dom Split.
Cobham se splitskoj publici predstavio s vlastitim bendom Spectrum, kako je naslov i njegovog debitantskog albuma, koji sadrži mješavinu jazza, funka i rocka te je proglašen jednim od najboljih albuma jazz glazbe.
