One of THE very top GREAT moments in television...period(imho). See the world differently my friends! Billy asks "What do you smoke and I'll get you some?" Guy doesn't ask for 40 Regal King Size - "Just 10 cigarettes" . Says so much about both of these gentlemen.
One of my all time wishes will always be to spend just one day with Billy. Just to talk and spend time in his company. Life would be far, far worse without him.
My grandfather was from Ayr, (new cumnock). He met Billy in Glasgow at the Hilton. He walked right up to Billy and said "What the hell are you daen here". And apparently they had a blast of a convo. Wish I was there. Hes no dead btw. You still have a chance to meet him and hope you do Keith.
I Volenteer at the Shelly Theatre in Boscombe, Bournemouth. It was commissioned by Mary so she could put on plays, readings etc. Sadly she died before it was finished, so her son Percy completed it in her memory. Rumour has it that she also pressed part of Shelleys’ heart to use as a bookmark….
On that radio 4 show they ask who you're fave people would be to have to lunch. I remember a lot of people wanted Stephen Fry and Sting. I'd prefer Connolly and Miriam Margoyles. They are both naturally gifted and a helluva lot of fun.
"That's not Billy Connoly is it?" You are one lucky drunk dude. Not only that you get to talk to him, but the fact that you didn't realize who he is and treat him like a normal person surely made him like you. And he bought you cigarettes! Id bloody save those cigarettes in a frame and keep it safe forever. Lucky bastard.
This is what true charity is, in my opinion. Not just signing a check for whatever cause and then take credit for it on every talkshow under the sun. I'm sure Billy has done things like this countless times. We just don't see it and he has no interest in publicizing it.
You'd be surprised - Most rich people know where they come from and know how hard they've worked to get there which usually comes with a lot of compassion. People with a lot of money aren't always the demons that the media likes to portray them to be.
This is what true charity looks like. A man asks you a cigarette, you give him a full pack if you can afford it. It's simple, it's uncomplicated, it works. When you write a check for the victims of last wednesday's disaster, after middlemen fees and 15 layers of corruption, they will be lucky to see a few cents.
