I rarely like covers - they do not seem to match the original. Billy is an exception - he just does this so well and with such feeling. Love this to pieces.
Just seems so much more heartfelt and sung from the gut than Van Morrison’s version....and then the pipes wow I’m not Scottish but they just hit you.... to quote Sir Walter Scott via Billy Breathes there the man, with soul so dead, Who never to himself hath said, This is my own, my native land!
My Dad loved this version of the song and we played it at his funeral earlier this year. He was a big fan of Billy, and a man who was very proud of his Celtic roots.
I love Billy, a good man, he nearly killed me once, I swear I couldn't breath laughing at one of his jokes, my missus came running down the stairs thinking I was choking on something. Have a great retirement big fella.
Went to see him live in 1994, and I never stopped laughing. This song still gives me goosebumps. The World Tour of Scotland is and always will be his crowning achievement, thanks Billy
Oh - and when the bagpipes start!! I know this really is Van's song but Billy's version is sooooooooooooooooo good! (Really I did NOT cry at the end, no sireee Bob). Wishing Billy all the luck in the world with his health struggles. We all love you, Billy!!
Donna Taggart, who's career seems to be on hold seems to be the best singer on every Irish tune she decides to record. Here's "Irish Heartbeat" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YYNEeads_zQ.html
Similar to the last comment, I heard this what.... 15 years ago when I watch the World Tour video, and it just came into my mind for unrelated reasons, and I found it in 20 seconds because I remember his voice crystal clear and had no trouble at all recalling the lyrics. The definition of a memorable performance of a song.
I absolutely love this version. Brings back fab memories of myself & a good friend of mine. He is a legend both musically & as a comedian. No one else can beat him in my eyes. ❤
This song reminds me of my son who married an American lass, and lives over there,,never forget where you have come from son,Ireland will always be home🇮🇪☘️
In history there can't be many people as multi talented as Billy, from a talented actor to one of the best and most unique comic geniuses of all time, his musical talent has had a tendency to be overlooked, this live version cover of a real iconic Van Morrison song has so much power and feeling from Billy's voice to the great backing singers to eventually the pipes to give it the anthem feel, never get tired of listening to this, bought the scottish world tour music cd on an import just so i could hear the full version, (before you tube). really glad to see Billy seems have found peace and solace in florida. Thanks for everything Big Yin, "your'e a one off"
This song, this one right here and so many others like it are a shining example of why the internet is so important. This song and all those others which make the hairs on the back of the neck of someone somewhere are now immortalised digitally and its vital to preserve that emotion.
Absolutely bloody brilliant Billy, love it...What a man and so many talents, his singing voice is like good wine better with age. Just for the record, it was great back in the day, fantastic now..
Billy is one of those people whose singing voice strengthened over the years - love this version - superb. Peace and strength in your current issues Billy.
i tell billy all the time how much i love this version , lets just say with him hearing it from me he was truly humbled by it., the bagpipes really give it that edgy sound i so love hearing. , billy love you so much sweetheart !
Something Ancient in this ...... Billy is Scottish with an Irish element by parentage - The pipes are of Scottish Flavour ... The song is an Irish modern Lilt but but can be used by any ethic origin or anyone at all .... and yet I've got goosebumps - certainly in Ireland and I guess in Scotland too - this song hits at the heart - family ... maybe its a celtic thing but a damn good ditty none the less - wasn't bad ....was he

I just found this version and fell in love with it. I’d heard the original, as it was played in a video, and then this. With the help of a friend I managed to get an .mp3 version of it. YES!
