Those one night stands, loved them. As a teenager I lived in Blackpool and several times I made it to the Liverpool Empire with the youth club. One occasion was to see Billy Fury but he didn't attend due to his ill health. I think Eden took his place who had just entered the charts with, "Well I ask ya" This was almost 60 yrs ago, where have all those years gone.
Fantastic stuff! Really glad I came across this little gem of a vid! Great to see the relaxed, genuine and humorous personalities of Marty, Billy and Joe. Btw.. How cool is Billy's hair here?!
If you get the chance to see Joe Brown these days you will not find a more entertaining bloke..........superb guitarist of course and comes across as still a cheeky chappie !!!
Billy Fury’s accent was not as strong as his parents or brother Alfie’s, I’d love to know why this is. Lovely interview with the boys who were very charming and witty ❤️
Julie hermiz I’ve read that it was because he was embarrassed by his Liverpudlian accent, he did everything he could to try and loose it. We have to remember Billy was famous long before it was cool to be from Liverpool.
sarah spicer Thank you so much for your kind reply. I’d forgotten that he didn’t like his accent and your reminder of this is very much appreciated. Billy practiced really hard to rid himself of his Scouse accent. I think he did rather well and proves what a determined and dedicated man he was because he achieved a lovely speaking voice 🤗
My dad (who was a cousin of Billy Fury) grew up over the Mersey in New Brighton. When he moved down south he lost his scouse-ish accent for social and work reasons and to avoid trouble in pubs. In those days things were different and people looked down on those with strong regional accents. Shame really cos I love the scouse accent. I’d probably pick it up if I went to live up that way :)
Yes I'm a hairdresser and one time I used to work in a wig makers in London and we used to make his hair pieces, and many other famous people to, happy days 💇♀️💇♀️
