Britain's great legend whom I first saw in 1962 and met in 1970 and spent some time with and saw again during the 70s.Maybe Tomorrow and I'm lost without you have to be my two faves.Taken way to soon.Rog.P S Records.
I didn t really.appreciate how good he was but he was out there on his own. Every perforance was perfect. He also had way of standing that drew you to him. Such a shame. He was so shy but you'd never know from his performance. Saw him at Birmingham Hippodrome with Geogie Fame, Joe Brown (l think) and a few others. He worked and toured far too much for a person with a damaged heart. He said he had no kids as he thought he was going to "pop off early". He d have been a great dad x
Gone far too soon, will be sorely missed!! Even after 40 years, Billy is still as close to my heart as EVER!! There will NEVER be another Billy!! RIP my Darling 🪽🌹🙏 💔💔 xxxx
I went to see Marty Wilde, I think in Margate. Billy was a supporting act. We had never heard of him but I was in love before the show ended. The crowd were just yelling for him. Must have been hard for Marty. I couldn't go to school the next day as had lost my voice through screaming. Like my husband who had rheumatic fever as a child, he died in his forties. Apparently it can damage the heart. What a talent, and gorgeous.
My great great grandfather😢Had many pictures and convos with my nana and aunty about him. He sounded lovely and was kind. Underrated talent and taken two quickly.. Ronald Wycherley! Legend
We lost a special talent when Billy passed away. Hard to say which of Billy's songs would be my favourite, so many, but one of my favourite, was his version of Nobody's Child, a sad song, sung to perfection. R. I P. Billy❤
Billy Fury had Rheumatic fever as a child. This produces damaged heart valves later on. He was operated on at the national Heart in London for an aortic valve replacement in 1970. I was there during his operation. He had another open heart operation 1976. He later died from heart failure in 1983

I find his songs timeless. I have the c d the best of Billy Fury and play it often never tire of listening to it. He did a good version of the Bobby Rydell song Forget Him.
Billy's Mum was 96 when she passed away. His brother Albie died of the same condition that Billy had. Jean (Billys Mum) lost both sons before she died 😢 Billy will always be close to my heart, even though it's forty years since he passed away,I still feel the same today,as I did on 28th January 1983 when he died!! RIP My darling Billy you are sorely missed 💔💔🎶🎵🎼🎤🎸🪽🌹🙏
"The Sound Of Fury" still remains the best British rock album, pre-Beatles. It matches Gene, Eddie, and early Elvis for sheer abandon, it really is that good. Billy was a class act. "I Will" and "Wonderous Place" are timeless classics.
he certainly didn’t allow his fragility stop him from rockin’ and rollin’! 😀 me mum was quite smitten with him, so she tells me. * a crazy teenager from manchester. 😉😊 super young to pass away, in my eyes. 🕯🥺 ✌🏻🇦🇺🌏🤘🏻
Thanks so much for this very well done video about Billy's life. A sad day when he passed away, and far too soon and surely had so much mor fabulous music and lyrics to offer. RIP matey still missed and we are still listening!
He did an interview with Michael Parkinson and talked a lot about ornithology, and he had a bird sanctuary at his farm , this wonderful man will always be remembered and sadly missed, rip 🪦 Billy 😊xx
Billy Fury had a great voice and his music has endured. 'Half way to Paradise'' and 'Jealousy' are my favourites but the unusual and poetic 'Wondrous place' also deserves to be remembered.
aw I used to like BF a lot, even now I still sing some of his songs. My dad uses to say he looks ill but I never noticed it, I had a German Shepherd dog I named Fury. He was a good looking guy, he has/had a brother who looked a lot like him too. I never knew he did a couple of films, music changed after the Beatles not sure if Billy could have changed with it, didn't seem his style.
Billy didn't have any heart attacks ever!! He had Rheumatic Fever as a child and Rheumatism, which led to him developing a heart condition. He had open heart surgery twice.
Fury concentrated less on rock and roll and more on mainstream ballads, such as "Halfway to Paradise" and "Jealousy"[8] (which reached No. 3 and No. 2 respectively in the UK Singles Chart in 1961). Fury confessed to the NME that "I wanted people to think of me simply as a singer - and not, more specifically, as a rock singer. I'm growing up, and I want to broaden my scope. I shall continue to sing rock songs, but at the same time my stage act is not going to be as wild in the future".[12] It was Decca's decision to mould Fury into a teen idol after his last self-penned song, "My Christmas Prayer", had failed to chart. The years 1961 through 1963 were Fury's best years chartwise. In 1962, he appeared in his first film, Play It Cool, modelled on the Elvis films.[5] It featured Helen Shapiro, Danny Williams, Shane Fenton and Bobby Vee, who appeared with the Vernons Girls. The hit single from the film was "Once Upon a Dream". There were other notable performances by several British actors and performers such as Richard Wattis, Lionel Blair and Dennis Price. Fury's We Want Billy! (1963) was one of the first live albums in UK rock history, and featured renditions of his hits and cover versions of several R&B songs such as "Unchain My Heart". In 1965 he appeared in the film I've Gotta Horse,[8] which also featured his backing group the Gamblers, the Bachelors, Amanda Barrie, Michael Medwin and Jon Pertwee. The album from the film was made available in stereo. Fury left Decca Records in 1966, after signing to a five-year recording contract with Parlophone.[5] Having had more UK hits, such as "It's Only Make Believe" and "I Will" (written by Dick Glasser, not to be confused with the Paul McCartney song), both in 1964, and "In Thoughts of You" (1965), Fury began a lengthy absence from the charts in 1967, and underwent surgery for heart problems in 1972 and 1976 which led to his abandoning touring.[5][8] Despite spending many weeks in the charts, Fury never achieved a number one single, but he remained popular even after his hits stopped. "I Will" became a US hit for Dean Martin (1965) and for Ruby Winters (1977). Later years In 1973, Fury emerged from a period of semi-retirement to appear as 'Stormy Tempest' in the film That'll Be the Day.[8] The film starred David Essex and Ringo Starr; it was roughly based on the early days of the Beatles. Starr was from the Dingle area of Liverpool, as was Fury, and had originally played drums for Rory Storm & the Hurricanes, whom the Stormy Tempest group were said to be modelled on. In the mid-1970s, Fury went out on the road with Marty Wilde. Away from the spotlight, he focused on wildlife preservation.[5] Fury's health deteriorated and he underwent two open heart surgeries-the first in 1972 and the second in 1976.[8] In 1978, Fury was declared bankrupt for unpaid taxes to the Inland Revenue. The taxes dated back to 1962, and amounted to £16,780. Fury was also forced to sign over his royalties and publishing income. A new release, "Be Mine Tonight" (1981), failed to make an appearance in the UK Singles Chart. Worse was to follow in March 1981 when Fury, working on his own farm, collapsed and almost died. He returned to touring later that year, and his next two singles, "Love or Money" and "Devil or Angel", barely dented the UK chart.[5] In 1981 and 1982, Fury was signed to Polydor Records by A&R man Frank Neilson, and he recorded a comeback album, The One and Only (released posthumously), with Shakin' Stevens' producer Stuart Colman. Owing to his health, Fury did little touring to promote the new album. His last public appearance was at the Sunnyside pub, Northampton, on 4 December 1982. A few days before he died, Fury recorded a live performance for the Channel 4 television show Unforgettable, featuring six of his old hits;[13] however, at the request of his mother, only four of them were broadcast.[citation needed]
Met some of his friends and others that had worked with him, I had a brief period where I could take off his voice, and used to sing in pubs, clubs hotels hie other fim apart fro. Play it cool was called I gotta horse set in great in great Yarmouth, . Where I met some people that knew him, A great entertainer and song writer, he was actually quite shy, would tour great Yarmouth seafront In his car, , loved all his music, . Very talented singing in different keys too., god bless him, and his family. Will always remember him.. Still sing hum his songs.
My favourite Billy Fury song is 'In Summer'. A big hit and a radio favourite here in Malaysia. He also did a fairly good cover of ;This Diamond Ring'. A pity he died young. Thanks for this video.
Why no reference to his song writing , he wrote most of his own songs , he was very talented , an amazing person and we were robbed of him too soon , he will always be remembered R.I.P our Billy x
Towards the end of his career, he was booked to play a local rugby club, he was a no show, the club & those of us who had bought tickets were angry, next day we all said we were sad that we hadn't got to see him, my friends Mum, said i did, she worked in the chip shop near the club, said Billy had come in, ordered fish & chips, ate them off the counter, whilst chatting to staff.
1940's, Untreated Strep throat infection. - Please remember that for the first eight years of Billy's life there was NO N.H.S. As a little boy at that time I can remember My Mother agonising over paying the rent or calling for a doctor. She later told Me the the Doctor would refuse to come into the house if "The Halfcrown was not waiting on the table"
I loved billy fury.has they say he was the British elvis presley. I really loved his songs. His ballads was so moving and special. My late brother John loved billy and he used to sing Billy's songs billy and also my brother are very sadly missed and always will be god bless you both xxxx.
He unfortunately caught rheumatic fever on two separate occasions as a child. This damaged his heart and he had heart surgeries when he was older. It was a heart attack that killed him. I find that awful picture very offensive.
@@paulcrawleyward-t9v Thank you for supporting me. Anyone else would have been banned on Facebook. Even asking 'nicely' didn't make any difference, about taking the photo off. 😪
Some reat songs: When will you say I love you, Like 'ive never been gone, Once upon a dream, SOmebody else's girl, In summer, Dou you really love me too. Funny i never likedJealousy or Halfway to paradise at all. Great voice.
Britain's answer to elvis and far better than cliff billy had it all looks talent but sadly not the recognition he deserves he had several hits in the top 20 like halfway to paradise Margo that's love all competing with elvis and the Beatles his album the sound of fury is still is a record breaker today all songs written and recorded by billy remains a classic album and must have for any fury fans
BILLY HAD HEART PROBLEMS HE WAS THE ENGLISH ELVIS HIS VOICE ALTHOUGH GREAT WASN’T AS GOOD AS ELVIS’ BUT THEN NO ONE MATCHED ELVIS. THE ONE THING BILLY HAD HE WROTE MOST OF HIS OWN SONGS AND HAD A REAL TALENT FOR WRITING. HE WAS A BEAUTIFUL MAN IN HIS YOUNGER DAYS AND APPARENTLY WAS ALSO A LOVELY MAN YOU WOULD HAVE TO GO A LONG WAY TO FIND ANYONE WHO HAD A BAD WORD ABOUT HIM I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING BAD HE ALSO GOT ALONG WELL WITH ELVIS THEY SEEMED TO HAVE GREAT FUN ON THE SET OF ‘ GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS’ YOU CAN SEE THEM LAUGHING TOGETHER AND ENJOYING EACH OTHERS COMPANY ❤ SORRY I FORGOT TO ADD MY FAVOURITE SONGS ARE ‘I LOVE HOW YOU LOVE ME’ AND ‘CROSS MY HEART’ SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM BUT THEY ARE SONGS I REGULARLY LISTEN TO 💔 HE IS NOT WITH US ANYMORE 💔
He had a terrible illness it's called old age. He was TOTP for a few years until Beatlemania took hold. He should have been a rich man but this was the days when people got paid £25 for a TV appearance and royalties were a pittance. He earned more opening supermarkets than having a No1 single. A royal variety performance playing for the queen as it went out live on TV paid £50.
I think Billy's farm was in Capel west sussex and would come to Horsham shopping with his wife on saturday morning on the bus as he was not allowed to drive because of his condishion he always wore a cowboy hat all the shop girls went crazy
