In an interview with Steve Stevens (Billy's Guitar player) said this song was inspired by a visit to a Japanese bar that had mirrors on the walls and girls would dance with their reflections

The best Billy Idol music is from before he went solo: his band, Generation X. Dancing with Myself was a Generation X song first (and my favorite solo song of his). Good choice, Jennifer!

This was a fun one back in the day!! LOVE Billy!! You really need to see older Billy, he aged very well!! Even if it's just on your own time, check out Billy and Miley Cyrus performing "Rebel Yell" together at the iheart music awards..... they killed it and Billy was as good as ever!!! Great reaction!!

It was originally released in 1980 by Billy idols former group GenX but Billy idol remixed it and Re-released it as a solo artist and reached #27 on the Billboard charts. That's a classic Jaaaaayy!! Thank you!! Love,Peace,Unity and 🎵

Billy was around 25 when he did this song so he is around 65 now and doesn't really sound much different when he performs. He was born William Michael Albert Broad and when he couldn't perform was because of an accident he was involved in a serious motorcycle accident, which nearly cost him a leg, on 6 February 1990 in Hollywood. He was hit by a car when he ran a stop sign while riding home from the studio one night, requiring a steel rod to be placed in his leg.

This music video was directed by Tobe Hooper, who made horror flicks like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist. They wanted a real horror filmmaker to get the zombie-movie vibe of the video just right.
