Check out Keith Thurman talking about how hard it is to get fights made at the top level and how its not the fighters who are scared. You don't reach the top of the world rankings by being scared. The only way you get to the top of the world rankings is by having enormous self belief. A great example of fans /haters claiming a fighter was scared was when a clip of Danny Garcia watching Matthyshe ko'ing Lamont Peterson went viral - proof Garcia is scared went the caption. Well not only did the fight get made but he stopped LM. In this instance the "scared" hype was actually used to make the fight, but often a fighter has very little say in who they are matched with. The promoter, the manager and then the trainer make those decisions. For a fighter to have a career that sets him up for life he does what his advisors tell him - its all about the risk vs reward model; or what it should be called the Al Haymon model If BJS beats DL and has a choice between fighting Canelo or GGG it wont be fear that chooses Canelo - it'll be all the $$$$ that Canelo's fan base bring to the table
