Gotta love Billy Joe. His voice is unique. When you hear him there's no doubt about who's singing. Great song writer and a great entertainer

Love the Texas country singers. We have a lot of them, and they're all great. Thanks for doing this.

Usually I'm not one to be at a loss for words, but just about everything I tried to write has already said so many times by so many folks. Living legend...check.The real deal...check. World class...check. Defined an era...check. See? Everything just turns cliche when talking of the life and works of Mr. Billy Joe Shaver! Oh well, I'll just let him talk for himself...here's a link to the hilarious true story of what happened to him before he wrote "Ragged Old Truck" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3_Dy-XYwI8w.html

@David Emswiler You and I were both at a loss for words at about the same time, since I was editing a certain video you requested that will be up tomorrow. Dear Lord! And in other news, I have as my regular video tomorrow another Billy Joe song, this time with Willie. What a day. :-)

Want more Billy Joe Shaver ... Any song on the album recorded at Smiths Ole Bar, in Atlanta Geoegia . Album Tramp on you Street, the title cut is a great place to start. His late son Eddie played so fine on that record. Billy Joe yelling "awww throw down Eddie" will stay with me all days.

Billy Joe is one of the original "Outlaws"! In 2007 he shot a man in the face in a bar fight and ended up not going to jail. Play "Old Five and Dimers Like Like Me", a 70's classic!

I can’t believe you said that! I’ve been requesting Billy Joe for six months. If “Ragged Old truck“ Rates a 9.6 Ican’t imagine how you’re going to rate “I’ve been to Georgia on a fast train“ Or “if I give my soul“. You listen to those two songs you know everything you need to know about Billy Joe Shaver.And I might possibly consider one of your $50 dedications of Billy Joe’s “Freedom's Child“ For the Fourth of July, Richard Gruver

Billy Joe’s son Eddie Joe Shaver was one of the best guitar players ever playing with him and many others. You missed the other half of the full enchilada.

I think you did a reaction to Colter Wall's cover of "Ride Me Down Easy " or maybe it was "Georgia on a Fast Train", awhile back, so you didn't totally miss Billy Joe. He was always an outlaw's outlaw and as a result was on the fringes of Progressive Country during the 70s and 80s. Ironically, except for one song, he wrote Waylon's entire "Honky Tonk Heroes" album, which is regarded as the origin of "Outlaw Country". Your assessment of him is spot on; he's everything he appears to be, not a man to be trifled with. There's a song out there called "Where Do You Want it", written about him, and the legendary bar fight where he shot the guy in the head, but was acquitted of charges in Waco, Texas. My favorite is "Old Five and Dimers".

@Brian Alford Thanks for that background info on Billy Joe, and you have a good memory--I did Colter Wall's "Ride Me Down Easy" a while back. Can you imagine if Billy Joe and Colter had hung out together? Now that would be a story.

Now that you've discovered Billy Joe, try on some Joe South. Two I'd suggest are "Don't it Make you Wanna go Home" or "Hush".

I’m sad you’re so shocked about Billy Joe. The man’s face belongs on American music‘s mount Rushmore. With Ramblin Jack Elliott John Prine and then I guess we can just pick a couple more right. Dude I’m a 56-year-old rock ‘n’ roll player it is so sad that you are not up to snuff with the old troubadours. This is American music. With that said I sure am glad you covered him
@RockN2Country
@RockN2Country 3 года назад
@Ric Greenwalt No reason to be sad for me, as I am enjoying this ride down traditional country lane. I didn’t get into it until about two years ago when folks on the channel started requesting it, and I was hooked real quickly. It’s better to be happily shocked later in life than not to be shocked at all. That said, welcome aboard the channel-I’m glad you found us here.
