Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on RU-vid, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on RU-vid. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on RU-vid, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

My father was in Vietnam in 1968 when I was born. He received the Bronze Star for his duties during The Tet Offensive. He just passed away this January after a long and tortuous life. I pray he is resting in peace, finally. Thanks to all our vets and their families for their sacrifices. For many, the war is never over.

I'm afraid I won't find peace until I close my eyes for the final time also. I'm very grateful for your service bc I know first hand what that war, and coming home, did to our boys and my father. Great song to play today! For those who don't appreciate America, it's a slap in the face to all who fought and died for our country. I am a veteran, my brothers are veterans and my father was awarded 2 Purple Hearts in Vietnam. He also fought in the Korean War. He would be devastated if knew how our country has changed. God Bless America.

He wrote this song for his friends who served in Vietnam he really didn’t want to but they talked him into it . They told their stories and he wrote them down and made this song and the rest is history. No matter how many times I hear this song it always make me cry.

I have five Military Brothers whose names are carved on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. I've left a pool of tears at that wall on every visit. Thank you for your compassion and understanding. I was 17 when I arrived in the country, 18 a month later, and left when I was 19. The oldest of my brothers, who died, was 21. The youngest was 19. I did two tours. Young boys don't realize how different the world is today. Two of my Brothers were African American and one Mexican Amerrican - we loved and looked out for each other. Not this insanity of hate we have today.

I’m a 69 year old man who grew up with this war for years and was so blessed not to have to go over there. The thing is that at that time we were bombarded with this war every night because it was on the news every night and there were only three stations to watch, so you get the picture. I had to get my draft card and register for the draft,the lottery was held and my number was 69, pretty much assured that I would get drafted. Like I said I was blessed because the draft and the war ended before that, I just feel bad for those who had to go over and never came back and equally bad for those people that did come back and were treated so horribly, for so many of them they didn’t have a choice and they couldn’t even vote for the people that were sending them there.

Thank you for your service my fellow vet. I served during the Cold War. I was in the US Air Force from 1984-1988. We Veterans are in a special brotherhood no matter what branch or what years you served,we all made that special sacrifice.

"We had no homefront..." breaks my heart. These boys were on their own. So many of the people back here abandoned them. The protests against the war itself often turned on the soldiers who had no control over the politics. I can't imagine how these young soldiers felt when they didn't come home to parades and accolades. We let them down. It is our generation's shame....

I'm not a veteran, but this song kills me every time I hear it. I caught the very last draft for Vietnam but my number came in too low and I went off to college instead, but all through my teen years the war on all our minds. The veterans who returned felt disrespected by those of us who disagreed with the US position, but no one I knew didn't respect them. You know there are always those who take attitudes too far and can't entertain the idea that it wasn't the soldiers to blame - the idea that two sides of an argument can both be both right and wrong, that there are many shades of grey to everything in life. I did know a couple of people a year or so older than me who went and didn't come back, but just because I wasn't there doesn't mean I can't empathize. I feel for those soldiers as much as I feel we were wrong to send them there. We lost thousands of soldiers in a war filled with bigotry and hatred and there was no way to win, no point to prove.

This song always makes me get teary. My dad & my brother were Marines. I knew about boot camp at Parris Island. Both of them are veterans who spent many years in service. I'm fortunate that both of them came home alive. I also have a cousin who is a veteran of the Vietnam War. I've never heard him talk about it. I can't imagine what he saw. My Father and 3 Uncles (2 have passed) all served. Army and Air Force. One Grandfather fought in WW2, the other in the Korean war.

I always suggest Billy's title track off the album AN INNOCENT MAN (1983), and listen to the range he had. Shortly after that recording he could no longer hit the very high notes and had another vocalist come in and perform that portion of the song for Live concerts. So far, no one has reacted - Be the First, Shawn! Veteran's Day is 11/11 and is for all who took the oath and wore the uniform of a US Armed Forces serviceman/woman, and Armed Forces Day is for all current active duty and reserve forces personnel, but MEMORIAL DAY is an extra special convocation for those US military personnel who died in the line of duty - yes, we (veterans) all wrote a blank check when we took the oath, backed up with our life - but Memorial Day is reserved for those who gave that Last Full Measure on duty - May they R.I.P., and God Bless!

I'm just a bit younger than Billy & didn't have to face the draft , but close enough in age to "get" this song . A neighbor's family on the street I lived on in Brooklyn was one of the unlucky ones to have their boy come home in a box 😞

My father served in the Navy Armed Guard in the North Atlantic during WW11. As a child I used to ask him about his service and he usually avoided talking about it. I remember one story from him about having to sail past a sinking Liberty Ship. Period.. That's all he said .I realize now that, at age 19, watching a ship burn and sink had to be horrific. God Bless them all.

Bravo Shawn, if I may suggest something even deeper. My union spent 12 years having our meetings at the local VFW. In that time I got to spend before and after time with MANY VV's. All of them concur, Charlie Daniels song "Still in Saigon", is the complete real story of each returning veteran.

Too many people have no comprehension of how huge a scar Vietnam left on the American public, especially those who were drafted to do it and their families. While I served in the British military in the 1980s, I was lucky not to see combat first hand.... but while I may not have walked in their shoes, I walked down the same road. This song and its story really resonates with any of us who served.
