Billy Joel doesn't have any particular genre. He's just REALLY GOOD. I love how he can sing high to low and the transition is like butter.

Yeah Billy's "style" is "Okay, what do I want to do with this song?" He seems to have done a song in every style he holds dear. I feel like he hit them all, then stopped recording because he had said what he had to say. Obviously he thought up one more lately.

Back in the day, it was an instant mood lifter when this song would pop up on the radio! Whatever I was doing, I would freeze when the music stopped in the middle. 🤣

If you’re interested in Billy’s inspirations, listen to An Innocent Man. Every song is a tribute to an artist from the 50s and 60s that he listened to when he was young.

@@brentgunderson1349 I’m in the UK slightly different order here, but I included Careless talk in the list because it was a B side to the first hit Uptown Girl which in my opinion is better.

I was fortunate to see him in his prime in concert. He jumped off of a large speaker and ripped his pants big time. He just stopped and said well that showbiz and kept right on going. He is phenomenal and tremendously talented.

I first saw Billy Joel in concert when this song came out! So you see how long Billy Joel fans had been waiting for another original song from him since 1993 😄 (He put out a couple of covers in the late '90s, and a mostly forgettable track that he didn't even want to record himself during this gap.) The only real way to remedy your query as to how Billy evolved musically is to just...dive into all the albums. Each one is VERY distinct, and a product of the time period in which he composed it -- except for Innocent Man, which was an entire throwback to the music of the 1950s and '60s -- and yet, his music overall remains timeless. Side note: for something very mid-'80s, he did a collaboration with Cyndi Lauper called Code of Silence, if you want to check that out!

Hi Sal I was hoping to join your family in order to make a request. Unfortunately it is full. I was going to request a Bobby Hatfield song and I prefer your reactions to any other reactor. (Apparently there are quite a few that feel the same) This is a rare song and only one reactor has used it. I feel it is as good as any of his songs and better than most! I believe it needs to be introduced to a much larger audience. (Which you have. I’ve been saving for some time so I can join and make my request. Please let me know if and/or when I can make the request. Thank you!
