@@Nothinglefttosay Dude , your right about the dust being meth and I’m right about people serving 20 years in prison in Texas for a little bit of weed.
Billy's father is a very well-known Bluegrass picker and Billy grew up playing from as young of an age as when a guitar fit in his hands. At single digits in age, he was playing with much older people live in front of the mic. Billy also used to play with his father and still does regularly to this day. He has taken a bunch of styles and added them to what he already knew about Bluegrass. If you look at the videos of his father playing similar solos, that's where it came from. Billy was also influenced by a large number of other musicians.
If you like Billy Strings, give Hank III a listen. He is the grandson Hank Williams Sr (one of, if not the best country and western singers) and son of Hank Williams Jr. He sounds like his grandpa, but has his own sound. Crazed country rebel would be a good first song of his to listen to.
This song is a true story. His uncle was pulled over on a traffic stop in Detroit, MI and they found a baggie with minute dust of a substance in it. When they tested it the test popped positive for methamphetamine and he ended up catching a 20 year sentence for possession. Or so I have been told by some people who know Billy (in front of him and he never said anything to contest the story).
This is for Left Side Office Bloke :). Billy Strings and Don Julin "Freeborn Man" also Billy and Tommy Emmanuel "Guitar Boogie/Working Man Blues" Thanks Gentleman, love the videos.
Billy is flat picking the hell out of his strings. Catch his videos playing with the GOAT Tommy Emmanuel at Grey Fox music festival. You're just beginning to see what Bluegrass at it's finest is all about. 🤣🥰
That's that southern mountain 🔥. At least that's what us Scots-irish up here in the hills call it. It kinda evolved from the music we brought here from over yalls way.
This music has its roots from Scotland and Ireland. Immigrants from Europe in the hills of Kentucky Tennessee Virginia and more. From across the pond. It developed into country and Blues from Africa and YOU. Song Catcher is a good movie as well. Blue Hills and the rain forests of USA. It's a must see.
You should definitely watch his solo version, where he said they were high on magic mushrooms, you could never tell by the way he sat that guitar neck on FIRE! I also highly recommend you check out Steve Earl's Copper head road video. This is American music history. With a little bit of audible Scottish/Irish background. 👍
Musically this is super traditional bluegrass. There are songs like this by the dozens with the same chord progression. The difference is the subject matter has been updated. In the past it was always about moonshine and killing cheating women. Billy dropped the “Mountain Dew” and changed it to meth.
I have followed you Bros for years.. being from the bluegrass state (of kentucky) this is bluegrass music.. its a major part of o brother.. and I happy yall enjoyed this.. with much love and respect... also between bluegrass and country music ... sturgill simpson and tyler childers are an hour from me in their hometowns
Office Dudes..........Billy is from MICHIGAN..........on the border with CANADA........He is NOT from the South.....but he sure does spend a lot of time fishing in Tennessee. He's giving respect to the MUSIC.
Reaction channels are so cool. Its like so neat how they take other peoples content that they put creative effort into. They watch it. Add nothing at all as far as value to it. And get views. So cool.
Jamel aka Jamal is the best reaction channel, hands down. The guy actually puts some thought, and heart & soul into his videos. Most of the mopes doing reaction channels are lame, just like you describe….. This one is no exception…
If you guys enjoyed this, you should check out The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn by Union Station, which features Dan Tyminski, who did all the singing for George Clooney in O' Brother Where Art Thou
There's some places up in Appalachia where they do the clogging to bluegrass music. The people are Scot-Irish. You can see the roots from the old country.
I live in the North Georgia Mountains 2 miles from Tennessee and blue grass will get any of us doing an old fashioned jig that has Scottish and Irish roots. They settled this area. Love this stuff cant get enough of it!
Clogging is a style of dance. Came from London and is a deep rooted dance from Appalachian mountains Blugrass music. Banjo from the African slaves. Progressed with more strings. Cotton eyed Joe and the fiddle was a gift from Europe. Sad poverty in alot of those hills. Soil was hard to produced crops. Songs passed down without it being written. Please watch Song Catcher. If it wasn't for your part if Eugene we might not have rock and roll. Britain has amazing music history and excellent musicians. BTW we love your channels! You blokes are great.
kinda funny how it's come full circle...settlers from Ireland and UK brought their folk tunes and instruments with them out western US, then the music came back east to TN and KY as bluegrass and now crossing the Atlantic back to the UK and Ireland and modern listeners say "I could never sing like that!"
Great song ...great reaction...his song While I'm Waiting Here is awesome too...He's known as the greatest blue grass flat picker guitar player in the world
Hey Patrick! Billy didn't get that red hair being born in Mexico, lol. William Apostle is his real name and certainly has some Irish/Scottish in there somewhere.
Punch Brothers would be an excellent band to react to. One of their live performances of Familiarity would be incredible... or any live song, really... but Familiarity a masterpiece. .
I’m Fuzzy and I can’t understand a word they are saying but they don’t know the Ryman is called the church of country music?? Kinda takes away the irony of him playing that song in that place but hey if they are Billy fans, they could be friends of mine. Great job guys.
Yes! Watch "Ole Brother..."! Sound track is amazing! All this mountain music and clogging, probably came from the Irish folk? Someone embellish, please. Love y'all
The first version of him with his hair high and tight in a basement with his friends is 100x better in my opinion but this video is good as well. I like all of his bluegrass pickin
I think you fellows have kinda missed the boat on this one. Perhaps it's a cultural thing for the misunderstanding, but in the US midwest and other rural areas, amphetamine and opioid addictions are a major problem and are responsible for thousands of deaths. I don't believe the song is supposed to be a good-time celebration of getting high or a bitch about the heavy-handedness of the "man” Rather, although the blue grass tune is upbeat, the lyrics are quite sober observing how addiction can ruin a life. Billy Strings nails it.
Hey Lads! Good review on this awesome flat picker. Billy did a guitar promo for Fender acoustasonic statocaster. Will blow you away. Called Salt Creek. Check it out. Thanks for sharing and love, light and blessings to all from Michigan Usa.
Yo you blokes.. good stuff you’re listening to.. billy strings use to be in a metal band out of Michigan.. now he rocks the bluegrass music, as you can see.. Chris Stapleton is definitely a good artist to review.. he’s done bluegrass with a band called The Steeldrivers.. rock with a band called the Jompson brothers..the song The River is my favorite.. but his solo career is awesome..
Be respectful. He took the hardest path to success. Who goes into bluegrass to get famous. It was pure love. Billy is so good now that he’s one of the hottest live acts today. He, Tedesci Trucks and Dead and Co The best live shows out there. Billy got his roots then fell into Dylan dead and jams like a mo fo. Billy is the best Flat picker alive today, Derek is the best slide guitarist , you need a little more deep diving to really understand his brilliance. Watch this crazy jam action. Tinfoil and turmoil and the crowd has no idea what awesomeness they just witnessed. Sometimes called Pantera bluegrass. He works the crowd so well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fJmzS_Redh8.html
Love my Aussie friends but don't think y'all quite get how awesome this track really is on so many levels. From the musical skill and creativity to billy's back story... Kudos to the bloke who recommended it..... PS Richard Careltons interview of milat family is best interview I've ever seen... If you're British ignore everything i said and piss off.
Music come out of the Appalachian Mountains square root of this music came from Europe the population that occupied these areas from Europe was greatly known as the Irish Scots these stem from the colonization from Great Britain and you look it up on the history maps you'll see how far it stems.
This is the lineup you have to react to Billy Stings turmoil and tinfoil Tyler Childers, (any of his live songs) hard times, nose on the grindstone, whitehouse road etc...... Colter wall brewery sessions and cowpoke
