being from the same state ive been seeing him play local grass festivals for years. the few times i have got to talk to him he acts like your best friend and is just happy you listened to him play. it blows my mind he still doesnt realize hes the best flat picker of our generation and will be talked about for decades to come.

My initials 'PRJ' might be in the bottom right hand corner of the label inside that guitar. I worked in the Mossman shop in the 1970's, bracing tops and backs and bending sides.

Billy’s dad sold his beloved Martin guitar, to provide for his family. When Billy had the chance, and the funds, he bought it back to give to his dad. That guitar represents gratitude, and no parent can wish for a greater achievement. If your kid shows gratitude, you’ve done a very good job parenting. I wish for my sons to grow up like Billy, talented, humble and grateful.

You can still read the original post in the for sale section of the website where the guitar was advertised. Billy telling the guy it was his dads guitar and the seller being sceptical, and Billy offering to send him instalments. Its a good read of seeing Billy getting worried and excited and then relieved when the deal was finally done. I cant remember the website but Billy mentions it in a video and I just scrolled through the old posts and found it.

@@tremold2043 thank you. I know I come off as rude but personally it gets old seeing someone make such a stupid comment on something to the point where you gotta be rude. Not to mention billy strings just cut and dyed his hair, how would someone know that’s him? And if you’re shopping at norms you have a good bit of money to spend and you’re probably not concerned with whoever is playing. I lived in Nashville and walked in Carter’s one day and mastodon was in there filming videos for Gibson. Didn’t phase me or anyone there.

I chauffered Dan and his bandmates Byron Berline and John Hickman around southern Alberta one summer in the early 80's and dropped them off in Calgary for a festival. Great musicians and really nice guys. Dan sat up front of my old Suburban and told me a story about how he decided to ignore hurricane evacuation notices in Florida and stayed for a big one just because he wanted to add it to his life experiences. So good to see someone like Billy Strings take to the pureness acoustic playing creates.

I agree, the world needs more Billy Strings and new young players like Molly Tuttle in cities around the worl. It is a honor for top players/songwriters to promote vintage and premium guitars and a nice way for large music stores and business people to support musicians like Billy.

Hopefully now there will be a resurgence of culture including music. ...Radio is great, but it might be hard to convince people who only need their smart-phones. Cheers.

Always wanted a Mossman. Rare in the U.K. Bought a Winter Wheat about 25 years ago, but had to take it back, because a neck fault (twisted). Also found another (Great Plains) in a shop about 120 miles away, a few years back, but it seemed to have a problem on high strings above 12th fret. The vendor wouldn’t acknowledge this so I passed. Fabulous guitars.

Long ago I saw Dan Crary playing that Mossman guitar, and afterwards he signed his CD for my girl friend, since I was too shy to ask (in awe of his playing). Crary was one of the great bluegrass players back in the day, and Billy Strings follows in his footsteps, and beyond......!

I bought an S.L. Mossman in 1976. Since then, I've had a Washburn, a Taylor, An Epiphone, a Dean and played many others. Not one of them out played that Mossman. I've wished many times, over the years, that I'd never gotten rid of it. It goes without saying that Billy could make any Guitar sound GREAT!
