Seriously the guys amazing. I used to think I was a guitar player until I started listening to guys like Bryan Sutton. Now I just consider myself a guitar owner.
@@babswright2664 Agreed. Billy is a class act. The most ridiculous thing in the world is how some of these "Bluegrass purists" talk shit about him for being a showboat. It has to be jealousy, that's the only explanation I can think of. I for one am thankful we have Billy to carry the torch for the future generation of flatpickers, we're truly lucky.
@@heathkish6901 he is a performer with confidence and I wish him all the success he deserves. I agree jealousy brings out the worst in people. If you watch his interviews you will understand how humble Billy is. I can’t get enough of him I wish I still lived in the States so I could see him live.
@@babswright2664 I couldn't have said it better myself. My father-in-law is in a bluegrass band, and Billy got on stage with them at this festival they played. They all said he was just the nicest guy. I'll post the link if I can find the video! Also, don't feel bad. I live in America and I still haven't seen him live.
608K views... I'm pretty sure at least 250K of those are from me watching this video over and over and over. Billy has to be one of the most captivating performers of his generation among any genre and this video shows why. So great, so much fun, so much enthusiasm and respect among the musicians. Mighty fine, indeed.
Almost all of the other views are mine! I had the immense pleasure of seeing him play live in Manchester, England at the end of last year. It was an absolutely spectacular gig!
The key to being this caliber, is absolutely being the music. These guys are their own frequency. They have fun with it every single note, measure and riff they play. I haven't heard one song from Billy that hasn't blown me away in some form or another.
First time I played this for my then 12 y/o he said 'Sounds like they're having a conversation.' I was 'THEY ARE' Proud momma moment..raising 'em right!
a friend says... the best camera is the one in your hand ✋...I am a lifelong photographer who uses his phone for all of it now... it's like having a really really good camera... for a few... comfortable monthly payments... no worries
I've always said "bluegrass is to country what metal is to rock and roll", to me Billy Strings solidifies my definition. I'm lucky that I love both metal and bluegrass, no damned lucky to be alive at the right time to hear Billy Strings perform. Could one imagine how sorrowful life would be if had never experienced Bill Strings?
Killer playing and singing there. I love where he quotes Big Sandy at 5:51 and then Sutton kicks the same quote back to him, only with harmony. Those guys both know how to listen.
Simply amazing! And I’m a die hard death metal musician. Stage presence, undeniable talent, and passion. Flawless performance every time I watch these guys. And Billy in my opinion is the Stevie Ray Vaughn, Darrell Abbot, Chuck Berry....of bluegrass! I’m sure it’s an October 3rd thing. Favorite song by Billy is Taking Water. Stay humble turbo flat picker!
@@buddythatcher5421 what he has some many people wouldn't achieve even if they play guitar everyday. Takes soul and hardwork. Break down some of his concerts how he progresses the songs uniquely throughout as you go on the journey. Not everyone can feel that. Even if you play forever. He has it. Many don't.
I've heard of Billy Strings and knew he was good but yesterday and today I have been watching many of his videos and have to say he is extremely good. One of the best of all time, even at his young age.
Man, I havent kept up with the bluegrass scene real closely for a couple years. I start digging around looking for something new to listen to and find this kid. I dont give a damn if hes cocky. That boy is the total package. And playing classics without some " new " BS twist. Not that I dont like the new stuff ...I do. But a kid who actually knows and plays the classics and loves doing it???!! Good stuff.
Ramrod Rymensnyder Billy is not cocky at all, he comes off that way on stage. If you ever meet him like I did in Birmingham you will know what I mean. He is a jolly, humble, good fellow!😋 David Barr
Pinrod93 - Yeah, I certainly dont have any reason to think hes cocky, other than the negative comments below. Its definitely nice to see a youngster playing classic bluegrass and doing it like a boss. That boy can damn sure burn the strings up
you might enjoy this guitar teacher reaction and teach of Billy Strings. Great enthusiasm and helped me to understand just how complex and layered and how it all comes together
Man, I was there for this and it was incredible. I think what makes it so special is that Billy is just throwing out everything he has got and completely trusts that Bryan Sutton is going to toss it right back to him. It elevates them both.
This is the ideal picker combination. Brian Sutton and Billy Strings. Two players of enormous talent playing side by side. I have been waiting to see this pairing!
It is so lucky that someone captured this amazing number on video. As of 10/28/2018 there were 32 losers who gave a thumbs down to this video -- versus 893 who were intelligent enough to give thumbs up! Great video.
Billy was artist at large at Grey Fox 2019. I was a volunteer with backstage pass. I got to see UP CLOSE that Billy is a music geek, totally tripping on Del McCoury and the Earls of Leicester, just like everybody else. He played with dang near every act on the bill, not showing off, but adding to each group. Props. I hope he I'm listening 20 years from now.
After listening to this song for years, the meaning of the line, " I always loved the girl next door, but any place is home" hit me. LOL. This is my absolute most favorite performance by him!!! HOT!!!!😍😍😍😍
First heard the Outlaws do this number on one of their righteous southern rock albums - then Tony Rice did a version and now this wow ...... love these two cats playing together - sweet! That break around the 7 minute mark is just ridiculous!
Sutton doesn't look too shabby playing alongside Billy Strings. Speaking as a 70 year-old, we may as well face it, Strings is in the process of carving out a universe of his own.
I do believe that that vintage 1948 Martin D-28 that Sutton is playing there is now being played by Billy Strings. That's the level of respect between a former Bluegrass Guitar Player of the Year and a future one. In fact, Billy is nominated for that award this year and may win it.
@@sandyamos2631 which makes it even more amazing he wasn't born with inherit talent. He developed it. To me that is far more impressive. Look at Wolf Van Halen. Born with it all can't play worth a dime. Needs the name to get anywhere. Billy is raw.
I just started hearing this Billy Strings fella just recently ... Where did this guy come out from !! Incredible talent. Like Earl Scruggs, Flats and Chet Atkins all rolled into one !! Love this guy !!! Real genuine talent !!
Well put Bob..... absolutely one of the best live performance's I've ever seen. These guys are at the top of their game. Some of the the cleanest guitar playing well beyond the speed limit.....
Allan Levy that’s what you get for growing up in the city lol but I myself did the same thing I didn’t start investigating other music genres until I heard Gerry Garcia’s album Old and In the way after that I figured if the Grateful Dead dig bluegrass it might be worth taking a look at
@@randyscott9034 lol Long island is not the City, I grew up on Long Island too. Its a suburb of the city. It's 20-80 miles from the city depending on where you live.
Curt- You nailed it my friend. I was at that show and all I have is the highest praise for the musicianship. Billy is on his way to super star status ( which is a shame since seeing him in small venues is so special.
I don't dig country much but I dig this . This guy is a guitar playin he'd cuttin machine the likes I have only seen since the Dark lord Steve vai or EVH . I hope this Kidd gets all he deserves .
