I don't own the rights to this video, Ren and stimpy owned by Viacom This before When Howard Stern wanted to invite John K over becuase Billy make fun of Howard Stern in this video. So he Might be pissed off.
The chubby chaser line and lead up to it re: Rosie O'Donnell's portrayal of Wilma in the then new Flintstones movie was brutal, even for standards back then, let alone now (no way he'd get away with it today without being crucified). And to that point, it seemed to get nervous/muted laughter from the audience. It bombed pretty hard I felt.
That's not what happened. Billy wanted more money and the station said no, so he left. He was already doing practically every voice on Ren & Stimpy since they fired John K, he was already doing Doug, he was already doing like 20 other cartoon voices and went on to do 1,000 more.
@@elit3268 Oh yeah we know Jackie & John certainly aren't biased in their opinions and personal feelings of their tenure and eventual release.... Billy said in a number of other interviews that the station had an opposing opinion of what his contribution was worth, so he left. It was business.
@@TheWingus don't dispute the other side of a biz transaction but my comment was specifically on stern and his inability to share the stage with a guy with Billy's talent
Yup. The show took a big hit when he left, but it was still excellent up until Jackie left. After Jackie was gone, the show was never the same. But yeah, the Billy West and Jackie Martling years were by far the Golden Era of the Stern show.
Bill Maher is such a try hard LOL. He really wishes he was a good looking guy. Just watched a 2 hr round table chat between John, Jackie and Billy. Interesting stories.
I'm so glad Billy West moved on from John K. John kept trying to hold him back and Howard did too. I'm very happy for him, he's very talented and doesn't deserve anyone else's abuse. Love Billy West, he's freaking awesome!
@@richardc.mongler1029 absolutely awful take and the lol makes you sound bad faith. it was a solid interpretation of the voice, it's only because people compare it to John's iconic performances as Ren that people write it off as shit
@@coldacre nice whataboutism surely john could've given billy the exposure he did while also not being an insufferable schizo to work under simultaneously, but that's not the timeline we live in, is it?
Terrible crowd especially Jay Leno and Maher. It went over their heads and just looked at him as if he were a crazy mental patient. Shame on all of them. Billy West is an all time great voice actor. Right after Mel Blanc. Like Kobe is to Jordan.
Too much talent to fit into this spot. Leno and Maher probably spent most of the interview comparing themselves to Billy and then biting their nails inside their minds
Bill Maher! Twenty years later Bill Maher would be trashing grown men for dressing like kids, and Billy West (at 42) is indeed dressed exactly as I was in 1994. Also, Leno blows. Now, and especially then
I dont think ive ever seen Billy West in a suit and tie. Very talented, but his Ren was never as good as John Kricfalusi's and it he didnt create the voices. John liked his Larry, and Billy kept drifted off it and John would have to tell him, remember Larry. As for Ren John is the one who came up with the idea of basing it on Peter Lorre with a mexican accent.
Rubber nipples huh? Can't say I have any use for them. I'll tell you what though do you have any walrus protectors??? Walrus looking terrified Whispers call the police
COCONUT: FOUND. (This is a gem of a gem of a treasure. I like it when the video transfer reveals imperfections from the tape. It's something we will one day never get to see anymore...) This made me feel nostalgia...
Billy does a bad Ren. John K as horrible as he has been to women in his life, does the best Ren and billy should have mentioned that he was the original voice. West is a hired gun and should act like it NOT a creator
Billy West was born with ADHD and autism. Billy was addicted to alcohol and drugs in his early 20's. He went to Rehab and has been sober for over 30 years. Billy did not start his career in radio and voice acting until he was 30 years old. His father was an abusive alcoholic. According to Billy, his father tried to kill him 15 times. Billy Described his experience working on The Ren & Stimpy Show as among the worst of his life and has said he'll never work with John Kricfalusi again. Billy West said in an interview that he did not wish to voice Stimpy in the Ren & Stimpy 'Adult Party Cartoon' because he believed that the series was not funny and that voicing Stimpy in it would damage his career. His favorite Looney Tunes character is Elmer Fudd. Billy disliked Disney's Doug.
Billy appropriated the credit for both Ren and Simpys voices not mentioning John K at all. Sad .Ren and Stimpy were great until the Big Takeover 😱 John Kricfalusi is q genius artist.
Well, technically, the original plan was West was going to voice both Ren and Stimpy, and his voice reel was what bagged them the deal at Nickelodeon. However, Kricfalusi insisted he voice Ren, which was OK with West since he was already part of the main cast. Once Nick fired K, they were scrambling to find a replacement when they remembered that West was the one who voiced both of the characters from the start. Full circle. You see, he wasn't mimicking Kricfalusi at all. The Peter Lorre-Burl Ives appropriation was already part of the design.
Billy is like a different person these days. He's way more self-aware, funny, professional, and seasoned. He's very off his game and manic in this appearance. His Stern impression should have been a few lines and that's it. He just went on and on and on with it. Finally Jay said what the rest of the country was thinking, "What else ya got?". He should have been more himself. Today he'd have been brilliant in such a situation.
@@bobabooey4537 We;ve got the benefit of 30 years on the situation...but you're right. So many of Billy's jokes just went right over the audience's head and Leno's.
Billy seems a little coked up or something here. Still funny, but yeah. A little manic, a joke a second, and memorable but maybe a little bit too in his own head.
