I was considering this set up but curious if it would tow any differently and what a 2" lift will do to my gas mileage? Thanks for the video
@TRUTHproJects
@TRUTHproJects 3 года назад
My gas mileage has been roughly 16 mpg in the city and 19 mpg for highway. Most of the reason for loss of fuel economy is because of my larger, heavier tires. As far as towing, because my truck is level now, towing gives you a slight "Cali Squat". I don't tow too much so it's not a problem. That being said, I plan on upgrading my leaf springs in the rear just so I can have 300-500 lbs in the bed without seeing some squat. Hope this helps.

Warning: this is a gateway drug. I replaced my tired factory 13 F-150 suspension with this setup. I am very happy with it, the biggest compliment came from my wife when she said "It's like it just floats over bumps". Excellent value, I don't think you can beat the performance for the money. My only complaint are the rear shocks. They are pretty good, especially on road but they have a hard time with washboard dirt roads. Now I want to upgrade the shocks in all my vehicles

Did this kit with bilstein UCAs and a deaver mini pack on my tundra by myself, took about 10 or 11 hours for someone relatively inexperienced. Had the distributor I bought the shocks from assemble the front coil overs for me and it was worth every penny. Overall very happy with the kit

I’m curious about the stiffer feel cause I only use my truck for pulling a 30 foot Jayco with with weight distribution hitch. As you know weight distribution puts more weight to the front of the truck. That’s getting me curious. But if I’m on a long trip, the my rear of my truck gets porpoise maybe from the rear shock fluid gets thinner. Now I’m thinking to get the upper control arm because my 2011 used to rub against the springs. Thanks for your info on these shocks 👊🏽
@stumptownwoodworks
@stumptownwoodworks 3 года назад
Thank you for pointing out the danger of the screw type spring compressor, those type of threaded spring compressors are sketchy to say the least. If someone wanted to diy and had a second vehicle, take the new spring and shock with your top hat to a shop with a real spring compressor, for probably less than 50$ they'll get the hard part done for you and it will be way safer. The springs in the kit are 500lb/in...that's a lot of force on the compressor.

Thanks, I'm considering this kit for my 2021 F150. I live in Arizona, and judging by the video so do you. My biggest consideration is how it tames washboard roads compared to stock without lowering tire pressure.
@TRUTHproJects
@TRUTHproJects 2 года назад
I am in arizona! I'll be honest, the roads out here, even with this kit, will be rough without lowering tire pressure. Depending on how fast you drive, your psi and how bad the road is. It's better than stock but if you have 40 psi in the tires it's still a rough ride. Hope that helps.

@@TRUTHproJects Thanks Jordan, pretty much confirmed my experience. That's why I ordered my truck with 17" rims so I can run taller tires and air down a bit. Think Apache trail washboard. Strongly considering the 6112 strut assemblies set at 0 or .5" lift combined with a 1.5" spacer/puck on top so the spring pre-load isn't so stiff initially.
@PowerHungry485
@PowerHungry485 2 года назад

Quick question about the rear shocks? 5160? The top mounting point on my 2018 f150 seems a mm wider then the shock itself- so there’s a slight play side to side - I’ve torqued down to 66lbft- I could torque more and bend the mounting point a little so it squeezes tight - or is this normal? Company i purchased it from and they said “it’s probably ok” ….. still waiting on blistein to reply-- thanks

I've been researching for quite a while and I'm having trouble finding advice on my setup. Maybe I can't find advice because my setup doesn't make sense/won't work. Anyway, here's my plan. 2015 F150 XLT FX4, Bilstein 5100s for the front to get the 2" lift, a 2" rear lift block because I want to keep the factory rake, Bilstein 5160s for the rear because they work with a 2" lift. 295/70R18 tires on factory Ford 18" rims. I'm hoping this is a sound plan, no rubbing, no trimming necessary. Hoping this is a decent off road setup.

@TRUTHproJects
@TRUTHproJects 2 года назад
I'd say these are comparable as far as on road comfort goes. If I were you, I'd look at some reviews of fox 2.0s simply because they have a reputation for being "softer" than competitors. They just use a different design in the shock which changes how they react. Look for "digresive vs linear" and you'll see what I mean. From what you describe, I'm betting you'll prefer fox 2.0s.

@TRUTHproJects

@@TRUTHproJects Which UCA did you order and from where ? Did the dealer for your shocks point you to the new UCA. You needed more loop clearance for the larger spring rather than the ball joint hitting its limit in its cup. You would think that the big time sellers of shocks to truck owners would quickly find that certain trucks would require a new UCA with a shock kit.

Did you consider the fox 2.0’s? I heard from lots of people that the 6112’s are one of the softest levelling struts. I wanted the 5100’s but with covid I couldn’t get them up here. I settled with a 1.5” motofab spacer level for the meantime and it rides absolutely terrible.

@TRUTHproJects 3 года назад
I did consider fox 2.0's but ultimately decided on the bilsteins because of the great value. The bilsteins kit cost about $200 cheaper than fox's, plus I the remote reservoir in the rear with the bilsteins. Ultimately, I think the choice between fox's, bilsteins and icons really just comes down to money (atleast at this price point). I chose bilsteins 6112 and 5160 as my first upgrades because, in my opinion, they had the right amount of performance, features, value and good reviews to get my sale. No regrets at all. Hope that helps!

Toyota suspension is alway a lot more expensive, it’s a way better truck statistically and a lot more people use Toyota Tacoma’s for off roading then f150 lol 😂

imo no one that knows off roading would dare go with 45 psi on a good day or leisure trail ride

I've been off-roading my entire life. My point is that even at street pressure, the shocks perform well. Obviously using a lower tire pressure is better for off-roading performance, traction and comfort.

The major difference between Fox and King vs Icon and Bilstein is that Fox and King are progressive and Icon and Bilstein are Digressive. Therefore, Bilsteins will feel different than Fox.
