Re-watching Art Dudley videos. I didn’t know him. I’m not a stereophile. I subscribed because I loved his writing. Maybe the best reviewer ever. Rest In Peace.

I've been a fan of Art's writing since Hi-Fi Heretic and Listener. He's gone away from the single ended triode amp/single driver loudspeaker but I'll always be grateful for him steering me in that direction as it's given me a great deal of listening pleasure. R.I.P. Wilmer Furman!

Art Dudley...I came here because I live about 10 miles from the famous Thorens TD 124-store of Schopper Switzerland. Art praised this TD124 years ago. First I realized: Oh, same raincoat-yellow as I have..Then: Oh, same green colour on the wall...Then: Oh, same green on the plinth of the TD124 (I sold my one to Mr. Schopper)...Then: Oh, he saved a turtle from the road (as I did in Southafrica)...then he mentioned his Sony SACD 777 (I still have a X333ES) but most of all: He seems so humble, with a good sense of humour, open for most kinds of music as I would like to be. Great human being, R.I.P.!

Thank you Art. I've been a huge fan of your work since you started with Stereophile. Well My dearest friend in the world and I have been fans. Many new him as MuzikMike, you and I new him as Michael Peshkin. We spent tens of thousands of hours enjoying music playback as we perused your articles and discussed each topic together. Then when he started writing for you in Listener, it was like a dream come true. That opportunity meant so much to him and I was so proud of him and grateful to you for bringing him such joy. I just now stumbled upon this video but I have to say it makes me so happy to see your face and though we've never met, it's like having an old friend talking to me. I still see Mike every day in the faces of people whose lives he's touched and those who have touched his. These faces and moments are so important now as he is gone.Thank you for this posting, take care and I wish you many happy years of music enjoyment to come. Oh I'm the guy with the prototype Monolith turntable from Mapleknoll Audio. That Mike mentioned.

I have always wondered how one of these high end systems might sound. This was an interesting but odd way to experience that. Even though I was listening on a highly resolving headphone system it sounded like it was recorded in a barrel. Still quite cool though. I'd love to hear it in person tho. And the dog too. Quite a feisty one there!

A bit late to this video--very nice listening room. If I might suggest a diffusion panel to plug -up the hole in your fireplace. It need not be permanent--just a panel when you are listening. I like the color...better than a yellowish white.

Are you sure it wasn't the untreated room or the far-field listening position with all room reflections intact? I'm normally not "that guy" but I found it just a little disconcerting.
@nicolasprotonotarios132
@nicolasprotonotarios132 6 лет назад
rorybz : I cannot be sure of course but since I have done a bunch of binaural recordings I can say with good mikes a musical event should sound very natural. I must say though John Atkinsons binaural recording in almost near field sounded much smoother so maybe we are hearing room effects. But have a listen to clavinetjunkie youtube review of the senn mikes.

Even with a lapel microphone I can hear the echoey room tone. Your electronics stuff doesn't "break in" over time, it's your ears getting used to the poor acoustics. Art, you'd really benefit from even just a few well-placed acoustic panels. Add some bass traps and you'll hear your system sing as never before.

capacitors do change sound over the time. But transformers, I am hearing it for the first time.
@EthanWiner
@EthanWiner 6 лет назад
I doubt that competent capacitors change enough over time to hear a difference. What's really changing is more likely your perception. What specifically would you think changes in a capacitor anyway? Its dielectric absorption? Its capacitance value? What exactly?

I must admit, initially I considered the music selections to be garbled garbage. Then I realized that I was listening in playback speed 150% because typically there is no music in these videos only information. I am inclined to take on information at fifty percent higher rates because, you know, more information in less time still gets processed. I'm basically a human DAC. -✌🏼

Please don't describe the in ear microphones as binaural they are not. binaural listening is only possible because of the fixed phase relationship of the two signals. Those headphones wobble and move on the ear, the Neuman dummy head is true binaural. For binaural recordings the phase delay between ears is in the order of 0.01 ms. But in order to preserve geometry of hearing to be able to hear phase differentials in the X Y Z axis means that the two points must not alter their relationship by 0.0001 ms

Works well as a video of a space in time, but as a profile it hurts the man unfortunately. Apparently he's perfectly fine spending plenty of money on gear and nothing on the room. That's just silly, and renders all of the rest of this suspect and/or a waste of time if you're looking for a short cut to better sound.
