Don't want to be a meanie, but it was said that he couldn't read sheet music and there he is, reading sheet music? Could he or not? If not, his ability is even more awesome.
During a scene in 'The Country Girl' (1954), Bing glances at the sheet music and quickly looks up. Here's the scene that I'm referring to: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HqG9jPNQh3M.html
Bing wasn't able to read music fast. He roughly knew how the system worked, but he wasn't used to read it from first glance as an instrumentalist would do. He always learned new songs by ear. The reason why he still often used sheet music was for lyrics and for orientation. Even if he couldn't read notes at first glance, the overall topographical image with the bars and the heights did tell him something about where he was and what the accompaniment was doing what where.
@@ep8324 Well that shows the kind of talent he possessed, I think. An instinct rather than structured tuition. I've known one or two other people who could do this. Thank you for info about him.
