All the way up until the late 2010s decade (at least before Hinman and CIW started undergoing a full renovation), the dorms on the campus that had newer, nicer, and better living conditions were also more expensive and less social. It has always been a trade-off that way. Of course, I'm still pretty sure that Hinman and CIW are not done undergoing their full renovation yet, but I do know that they officially started it toward the end of the 2010s. And even from the early to late 2010s, they were doing very small renovations in Hinman like repainting the walls, redoing the floors, replacing the doors and furniture, etc. Ever heard of Old Newing and Old Dickinson? They were basically the extreme opposite of the current Newing and Dickinson - complete hole-in-the-wall buildings but extremely cheap and so much of a tightly-knit community to the point where it was scary. And they both had all corridor-style bedrooms (with no singles) and communal bathrooms. Of course, it is a STEREOTYPE that the current Newing and especially Dickinson are too much like a hotel instead of like a typical college dorm, and are thus the two most anti-social communities. But they both offer super nice yet quite expensive living conditions though. Note that Old Digman Hall is the one residence hall from Old Dickinson that never permanently closed but instead underwent full renovation and reopened for residency, but specifically for only freshmen studying health and wellness (or something like that). Mountainview is basically a reasonably smaller and less extreme version of the current Newing and Dickinson. But while Mountainview also has nice and upscale living conditions, giant suites, and great views - some people say that it can feel like a hospital after a while, both on the outside and inside. On the other hand, Mohawk Hall is unique in that it is the one residence hall of CIW that was built in 2000 (instead of 1973-1974) and exclusively consists of suites, some of which have two bedrooms and others of which have three bedrooms. But all bedrooms are doubles, and each suite also comes with two individual bathrooms and one lounge. Mohawk Hall is not quite as nice as Mountainview, Newing, and Dickinson are - but it is cheaper and often STEREOTYPED for being more social too. Hinman is in the best location on the campus, CIW comes close, Mountainview and Dickinson are in an average location (although Dickinson is at least not on top of a hill), and Newing is in the worst location despite not being on top of a hill either. Old Newing and Old Dickinson unsurprisingly got filled up extremely slowly at the time they existed. And before Hinman and CIW started undergoing a full renovation now, they only got filled up a little bit faster than Old Newing and Old Dickinson did. Interestingly, the current Newing fills up at a slower speed than Mohawk Hall and Mountainview do (though this is only because Newing lacks suites and is located far from the rest of the campus), and obviously the current Dickinson fills up at the fastest speed. I am not sure how quickly the new Old Digman Hall fills up now, but I would imagine that it is probably at least a decent speed. Newing has the highest prevalence of future Greek Life students, Dickinson comes close, Mohawk Hall and Mountainview have a moderate number of future Greek Life students (but by contrast have a lot of athletic students), and both Hinman and CIW have a low prevalence of future Greek Life and athletic students. It is a STEREOTYPE that Hinman is full of nerdy and studious people, and that CIW is full of people who smoke marijuana though. The on-campus apartment communities (Susquehanna and Hillside) are deliberately located in a worse location on the campus than any of the dorm communities are, plus they're on top of a hill too. Hillside especially is in a very high and isolated location, though there is a pedestrian shortcut to cut straight from there to the back of Susquehanna. Both Susquehanna and Hillside are even more expensive than living in the dorms, not to mention that Rockland and Saratoga Halls of Hillside particularly were established in the mid 1990s (unlike the rest of Hillside and Susquehanna, which were established in the late 1970s and will probably undergo full renovation soon). Finally, off-campus housing is always cheaper than living on-campus, period, but it is still obviously not as convenient as living on-campus though is similar to Susquehanna and Hillside in that it is meant to give students the feel of a more independent lifestyle. Students who live in either the on-campus apartment communities or off-campus will have to purchase a commuter meal plan instead of being on the regular meal plan though. And unlike the dorms, both the on-campus apartment communities and off-campus housing are still open for students during the summer as well.

Parent here you are very informative. My son is moving into newing Bingham dorm. I remember seeing that you knew layouts of some dorms. Do you happen to know the best way to layout the furniture for this dorm to get more storage in it? Thanks
