I got curious and looked it up, apparently Oda-sensei wrote the lyrics to this for the manga himself which amazes me as it's a genuinely good sea shanty.
he didn't just write the lyrics for the manga, he actually had the anime's composer write a melody for the song years before it even appeared in the manga

Thank you so much for not only making this cover but also putting it on Spotify especially. I started watching One Piece in September of this year and got to Thriller Bark by around Halloween and since getting to this song in the anime it has become one of my favorite songs, ever to exist. Since then it has helped me through a rough patch of life and listening to this song and singing along always helps lifting my spirits up whenever they are down, and driving while listening to this is always fun. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays and to the new year approaching :)
My favorite anime of all time. Watched it for 15 years now and I cant imagine the day it will end, I will be gutted. Its mostly the attatchment you get with each character through Oda's story/character building. It is second to none in my opinion. I cant even watch a single One Piece opening without tearing up, thats how much One Piece means to me.
