Yeah definitely. Springtails will dry out pretty fast if not kept constantly moist, but if she keep it constantly wet it will not be good for plants roots
Substrate soil can't have an actual built in drainage layer. It can contain bark or charcoal etc, content that makes it drain easier, but without a proper drainage layer, seperate from and under the soil, your substrate will be filled with a degree of standing water, which will breed fungus and decay.
My snake plants held up decently to my geckos, but they are conky little destructos. They've trampled about 25% of them. It's best if you can prop the snake plant next to some sturdy sticks.
Thank you so much for this video. I have just finished setting up my first bioactive enclosure for my new Crested Gecko that I'm picking up tomorrow. I must have watched this video so many times to help me, although I have added a drainage layer to stop it getting too wet. I can't wait to get my little boy tomorrow and I hope he loves his new home as much as I do. Great work as always x
Phew, glad you did fall for the soil with a "built in" drainage layer like she did. That's a death sentence. They must have meant that the soil is fast draining. You can't really forego an actual drainage layer. It would be a death sentence for the vivarium
Thamk you for the springtail comment and how they like moisture. That is something I have missed while searching info (or completely forgotten about it ^^; ) but it is something I will have to remember and write down for when I do get my soon to be springtail culture :) It looks great and really would not mind to see how your reptile room looks. Hey Caleb here, good enclosure I just wanted to clear somethings up, this is not a bioactive enclosure. Bioactive enclosure need a layer at the bottom of either lava rocks or clay balls (those are the two most popular options there are others you can choose just do some research).
Just a suggestion, you could cut plexiglass (sand it down or put a silicon border on the edges so they are smooth and not sharp for safety) then silicon it in place at the bottom, front of the enclosure (for the screen tanks) and that will work as a barrier for the substrate so it doesn’t fall out!!!(: love the videos!!
@@theboss2815 it’s basically just a live environment rather that a sterile habitat... dranage later, plants, clean up insects (eat poop and mold and dead plants) etc. It is better cause it keeps humidity more stable, more interesting for animals, and looks better. Also you don’t have to clean up poop as much

I want to do this, but where would I put my crested gecko while I redo its tank? Or would I have to buy a new tank? I really don’t want to do that unless I sell it after maybe? Idk

@@reptiliangarden I used it with my iguana back in the day. Also with my Collard lizard. It helps with them not eating sand or subtrait. I did put moss and plant and wood and stones. With my red foot tortoise she gets her peat moss and flat stones and her hide. Ps keep up the great work
Hey I really having trouble with my research and finding which bulb is best for my crested gecko do you have any preferences and what are you using right now
It does a bit, I've used it for that purpose. The only thing is that with really caked on hard water stains it may not remove them completely. But then again I just used paper towels so maybe using a plastic wool scrubber would've worked better. Use purified water from then on after cleaning.
@@reptiliangarden try just take some branches and experiment with them... i was thinking few times: i can´t put more braches there. but trust me you can always find the way. good luck
