In this video, we focus on a macro-level view of land cover changes in the US over the past 15 years. We discuss the significant increase in croplands and the decrease in natural lands, with a particular focus on the loss of grasslands and pastures to croplands.
We also examine the impact of croplands on biodiversity and analyze the trend of biodiversity change at a state and county level. We highlight the opportunities provided by advancements in technology, such as monitoring land use changes in real-time for initiatives like natural capital, green financing, and biodiversity credits.
