We borrowed a BioLite FirePit from a buddy to try out. It's a awesome gadget, and it does reduce smoke. However, there were a few things we didn't like that would prevent us from buying our own.
What I would get instead: amzn.to/3EWZz0I

Would make a great grill tho ✌️ Right amount of wood, and correct fan speed.. Atleast in nature... But then again, flying embers makes is a Hazzard too... Idk, the biolite would be the best bet I guess...

Well first of all you've overloaded the firepit with too much wood. You're also not supposed to have wood sticking out of the firepit. Too bad you were just winging it instead of actually using best practices with the firepit.

So...you own one?

Actually, well done on your channel! I respect the deserved criticism. I was winging it.

@@amobeo5700 Yes I own one. Just got it and it's still in the box. However I did extensive research of it first and watched the videos they produced regarding the setup and operation of the firepit. They are very specific about how much wood should be used, whether wood should stick out of the firepit, how the logs should be placed, etc.

It doesn't radiate much heat?...

For heat a Solo Stove is better.

In all fairness to the grill it's not designed to put large split logs into it. It's causes the fire to smother rather than burn. It wouldn't spit ash out otherwise. Only reason I would never by another is the price point is way to high vs other more efficient fire grills out on the market.

I’m curious what other efficient fire grills do you recommend?

Agree with this, most of the issues are general fire building knowledge and outdoor skill related. I get this is aimed at a different demographic, but criticism on heat output seems odd for a standard Firepit. Judging the size of the burn chamber I wouldn't expect it to burn as hot and especially radiate horizontally compared to a pellet heater etc. I have the upgraded version of this pit and if you leave the leftover coals out properly stoked with the fan on turbo very little remains. I think a regular pit would eventually burn down more, only because the coal bed stays in tact, where this pit burns through coals and creates more ash since the oxygen infusion speeds up combustion.

It's probably not advisable to use a metal fire pit with an electric fan/battery in the rain. I appreciate the quality of your video and audio, very clear. Also good to know to leave a little distance between the pit and any seats you don't want to get small burns on, I'd suppose that's the case with any fire, like you kind of alluded to.

its not electric, its built to be used on the biolite

i wouldn't buy it for 1 major reason: it's made in china so the manufacturing costs were cheap, but the retail price is very high for something made out of plain painted steel that eventually rusts out. they could have had it made out of stainless steel for very little extra manufacturing cost but biolite corp is greedy and doesn't care if they sell an inferior product.

There's a lot more to a company and pricing than just manufacturing cost. There's also the research and design cost, which for this company would be quite high given there's nothing out there quite like it. Then there's the fact that a portion of the profits goes into making lighting and cooking solutions to people in Africa. Then they need to worry about not pricing themselves out of the market. They're on the higher end of the price spectrum for sure but the products are pretty cool and fit a certain type of niche customer.
