Bioluminescent jellyfish pulse and strobe with rainbows of colors, as if putting on an electronic light show underwater. These animals are on display at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

These jellyfish are absolutely stunning. The amazing thing is that they are natural sources of light, along with angler fish, fireflies and glow worms. It’s also incredible how over 70% of deep sea creatures emit natural light! 🐠 🐠

I choose to include the actual sounds at the aquarium where I recorded this. So, you end up with the sound of the visitors as well as the music the aquarium was playing overhead. I agree that the voices are distracting but at least it's faithful to the experience at the aquarium.

Glad you liked it. The music is simply what the aquarium had playing overhead in the display area, so I don't know more about the source.

They are relatives of jellyfish. Comb jellies have such beautiful beating cilia.

One time when I was snorkeling in the Florida Keys, I swam into a patch of jellyfish and I was like " OH DAYUM " But they were bioluminescent jellyfish and they didn't sting! If you caught one and shook it, it would glow! But they were invisable above water

I wonder how cool this sort of thing could be for a sensory room. Not the real ones but if there was some sort of projection or light that could possibly replicate it?

The Monterey Bay Aquarium does not have bioluminescent jellies. Some of them look bioluminescent, but it is an illusion caused by the high powered lights that they use and the jellies' cilia.
