The BCIT Biomedical Engineering Technology program is the only one of its kind offered in BC and the only one in Canada that is specifically targeted to both hospital and medical device industries. Our students have access to BCIT's extensive array of health technology equipment, which prepares them for the workforce as soon as they graduate.

What is the difference between biomedical engineering and biomedical engineering technology????

​ @Jason Nwajei In the US there is a very large difference. In general, Biomedical Engineers (BME) usually work on device design or focus on biology and chemistry and work at big pharma companies. They typically have very little repair and technical training (they can always learn it but often do not have those skills in their education). Many BME's can transition into a career in healthcare technology management with some industry training. A biomedical equipment technology or biomedical engineering technology program focuses on careers in repairing and maintaining medical equipment. They are typically 2 year degrees or certificates. If you want to work on medical technology get into a BMET program.

Well in Pakistan and Gulf, Both are pretty much the same regarding the practical work. But in actual, in the world, as I know of in USA, Australia, Canada, Europe, and Uk, both are different. Biomedical Engineering basically focuses on the research side that includes signal processing, bio instrumentation, medical imaging, rehab techniques, Biomaterials, etc. Through research, you find new ways to solve healthcare and improve quality of life and choose a career as a Biomedical Engineer, researcher, manager, teacher, quality specialist, entrepreneur, etc. Whereas Biomedical Engineering Technologist deals with the acquisition and procurement of the medical devices that may include maintenance, troubleshooting, servicing, repairing, installation procedures related to the medical equipment and rehab devices. They may serve as technologists, quality experts, industrialists, and even as a researcher based on their in their interest.
